Today, I’ll be reviewing Soil Association certified Therapi Rose Otto Hydrating Facial Toner. I am a huge lover of rose ingredient, as well as faithful user of facial toners, and a fan of Therapi Honey Skincare.
Therapi Rose Otto Toner is a part of one of three Therapi lines, a Rose Otto line, which consists of Rose Otto gel cleanser, Rose Otto propolis + ultra radiance cream (on my wish list), Rose Otto moisturiser and – Rose Otto facial toner.
Therapi Rose Otto Toner comes in an elegant spray glass bottle, perfect for keeping the ingredients intact, as well as for re-use. The smell is wonderful, of course; it’s non-overpowering, almost discreet and lingers on for quite some time. Therapi Rose Otto Facial Toner can be used for a finishing cleansing step, as well as for preparing the skin for easier absorption of facial cream or serum. It can be used for just refreshing the skin, as a body spray or even for hair – it is that versatile. I mostly use it to either refresh the skin or to prepare the skin for application of a cream, serum and/or foundation. The skin is soft and hydrated after using it. If you use the toner by spraying it on cotton pad, it will not last as long as it would if you just spray it directly onto the skin; with such a use, the toner could easily last for about 3-4 months when used on a daily basis.
Therapi Rose Otto Toner consists of the ever amazing rosa damascena flower water as well as of precious and expensive rosa damascena flower exctract, known for their amazing properties. Rosa damascena is full of antioxidants, it rejuvenates, refreshes and nurtures the skin. And while rosa damascena is excellent for dry skin, it’s also excellent for other skin types as well, whether it’s oily, acne prone or sensitive. Witch hazel water has antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties and has a soothing effect on the skin. Glycerin is a humectant and emollient; it can be potentially comedogenic, although that did not prove to be the case for me. Alcohol can be drying for some types of skin.
Not so good ingredient or two? The following synthetic preservatives: dehydroacetic acid and benzyl alcohol. While dehydroacetic acid is not that bad, I am absolutely no fan of benzyl alcohol; it can be a skin irritant and is associated with immunotoxicity or allergies and it rightfully received a bad score on EWG. Given other ingredients in Therapi Rose Otto Facial Toner, which act as natural preservatives (rose flower water, witch hazel flower water as well as alcohol), the toner would do perfectly well without benzyl alcohol.
Price? 30€ for 100ml, which is a bit pricey for a toner, although it does contain the expensive ingredient – rosa damascena flower extract. Would I re-purchase Therapi Rose Otto Facial Toner? I would, even though I prefer toners without benzyl alcohol.
