Therapi Honey Skincare is an up and coming new organic cosmetic brand that’s been creating a lot of (bee) buzz in the past few months among green beauty bloggers and natural organic cosmetics connoisseurs. Already available at Love Lula, Therapi Honey Skincare established itself, in a relatively short time, as a luxurious and quality natural organic cosmetic brand, that is surely destined to take a permanent place among natural organic cosmetics clientele.
Therapi Honey Skincare is a Soil Association certified organic cosmetic brand, available in three lines: balancing Orange Blossom line for normal skin, nourishing Rose Otto line for dry skin and purifying Lemon Myrtle line for combination/oily skin. As the name suggests, the main cosmetic ingredient in Therapi Honey Skincare products is – honey. With many other extracts, essential oils, vegetable oils, aloe vera and hydrolates, the Therapi Honey Skincare creates an excellent combination of nature-given ingredients, and the three lines can be mixed regardless of the type of the skin: Rose Otto Toner can be used for any skin type, just as gentle Orange Blossom Cleanser can be as well, for example.
Therapi Honey Skincare won “Best New Skincare Launch in 2014″ in the Beauty Shortlist Awards, gold in the Green Parent Magazine Beauty Awards for their Rose Otto Propolis + Ultra Radiance Cream in category for Best Night Moisturizer, and has Orange Blossom Honey Moisturizer and Orange Blossom Honey Gel Cleanser shortlisted for the Soil Association Organic Beauty Awards for 2014.
Times, when natural organic cosmetics came in rather unappealing packages, are slowly but sure over. Therapi Honey Skincare products come in a luxurious white glass containers, which give a vintage feel of an apothecary: minimalist, yet appealing and important as far as keeping the natural ingredients in tact (sans moisturizer – but more on this in our detailed reviews); the ever present homage to bees is not missing either.
Therapi Honey Skincare sent Nature of Europe some of the products for us to test and review, and you should expect the reviews (and be careful not to miss the giveaways, too) in the up coming days and weeks.
Tanya Hawkes, an energetic and lovely founder of Therapi Honey Skincare brand, never shy of pristine approach with her customers and green beauty bloggers alike (who, quite often, are one is the same, actually), was gracious enough to take the time out of her busy schedule and do an interview with Nature of Europe. We kindly invite you behind the scenes of Therapi Honey Skincare.

Nature of Europe: As a beekeeper with 25 years experience, your first passage into incorporating nature’s’ liquid gold’ – honey – was with your brand Apples & Pears. The next step in your journey of offering honey-based skincare products was – Therapi Honey Skincare. Please, tell us a bit more about this journey of yours.
Therapi: Apples & Pears was born out of my love for bees and honey. Therapi was born out of my love for pure organic skincare. The catalyst in developing a honey-based skincare range was my own increasing struggle with hyper-sensitive skin. Having spent years sourcing amazing organic oils, botanical extracts and butters to use in our original lip balm line, it was only a matter of time before we developed a skin-food range using the amazing properties of honey and propolis.
Nature of Europe: Bees are natural-born and perfected-through-time chemists.
Therapi: Bees have co-evolved with flowering plants for over 100 million years and have become sophisticated organic chemists; synthesizing and perfecting botanical ingredients into ever more complex and extraordinary compounds. Ancient cultures have traditionally used and prized these precious substances as medicines and super-foods. Western medicine now routinely uses honey dressings for many complicated slow to heal wounds.
Nature of Europe: What are the honey benefits for skin? How does propolis fit into skincare formulations?
Therapi: Honey acts as a natural humectant in skincare, it attracts and retains moisture to keep skin soft and hydrated. The vitamins, minerals and enzymes it contains provide essential nourishment and improve cell production. It also acts as an antibacterial agent that works well for purifying blemish-prone skin, as well as reducing redness and inflammation. Propolis is a powerful antioxidant and has been shown to promote collagen production and improve skin tone and elasticity. We use this in our Propolis+ Ultra Radiance Cream.
Nature of Europe: Therapi Honey Skincare offers three lines of skincare products: Balancing Orange Blossom line for normal skin, nourishing Rose Otto line for dry skin and Lemon Myrtle for combination/oily skin. What was the process of choosing these three essential oils to combine them as most compatible with honey?
Therapi: When formulating new products we strive to bring together the very best natural and organic ingredients through a process of natural synergy. We take our inspiration from traditional wisdom as well as from the latest innovations in green chemistry. Rose Otto, Orange Blossom and Lemon Myrtle were carefully chosen for their natural affinity with the three main skin types. I also happen to love them all!
Nature of Europe: Where do you source the cosmetic ingredients from and what is the process of creating Therapi Honey Skincare products?
Therapi: I love natural ingredients – especially honey, beeswax & propolis. In the winter when the beekeeping season is over, I’m most happy locked in the lab mixing and blending different combinations of wonderful smells, colours and textures. I’m also constantly on the look out for amazing plant-derived raw materials and we go to incredible lengths to source the very best we can find from specialist producers. We also work with a very talented cosmetic chemist who is equally as passionate about natural and organic skincare as we are.
Nature of Europe: What is your favorite product from Therapi Honey Skincare? While I tested only Rose Otto Toner from the Rose Otto line (and it’s no secret I absolutely adore roses, especially as a cosmetic ingredient), I have to say I absolutely love this toner!
Therapi: I have three favourite products! However, there is one product in the range that was specifically formulated for me and has really made a huge difference to my skin. My skin is naturally dry and doesn’t seem to retain moisture well. I wanted a super rich and nourishing night moisturiser with honey, rosehip oil and shea butter in the formulation. I also wanted to use propolis because it is particularly good for mature skin. I find it really does work small miracles!
Nature of Europe: The importance of honey as an all-round medicine has been known for thousands of years. By creating Therapi Honey Skincare, you also bring forth much needed attention to the utmost importance the bees represent for our planet, our very survival.
Therapi: Bees are highly sensitive environmental barometers, they are the proverbial ‘canary –in-the–coalmine’. Their modus operandi is one of symbiosis with nature and mutual collaboration. Their co-dependence with flowering plants makes them very susceptible to change. Agri-chemicals, pollutants, climate change and even beekeeping are all major stressors. Therapi aims to champion bees and promote biodiversity – the natural capital on which all life depends.
Nature of Europe: The reception of Therapi Honey Skincare has been, rightfully so, amazing. Not to be impatient, but I have to ask: what are the plans for Therapi Honey Skincare brand? Products range expansion?
Therapi: Therapi has had an amazing first year – we have received several awards and have had some fantastic coverage in the press. We’re constantly talking to our customers and our stockists and hopefully next year we will be adding three new products to the range – all honey based but it’s top secret so that’s all for now!
Nature of Europe: Thank you, Tanya, for chatting with Nature of Europe! Wishing you much success with your Therapi Honey Skincare brand!
