Long over due and many times over requested – my morning skincare routine! I will do my best to keep this a monthly series, as despite testing quite a few products, I keep my routine as steady as possible. I will also turn an evening routine into a monthly series, so you can follow what products I use – and why.
My skincare depends on many factors: what my skin needs at the moment, weather and, sometimes, how much time I have, whether in the morning or in the evening. Just as with makeup, I prefer a skincare routine that’s more on a minimalist side, avoiding burdening my skin with too many products; not only many products layered on the skin are not good for the skin – it’s only good for the beauty industry. Aside from trying to keep my skincare routine minimalist, I also do not rotate too many various products on a daily basis. Skin, sometimes, has a mind of its own, and needs a different approach based on the state it’s in, switching too many products too often is also not good for the skin. Fining out what works for your skin and when and then apply this knowledge is the best path. Sure, as a green beauty blogger I do test and use quite a lot of products (a lot in my opinion), or rather – more than someone else might, but even so, I make sure to not switch my whole routine all at once, so that I gradually introduce new products to my skin and then – take the time with testing and using the new products. This way, my skin gets to adapt (if it likes the product, of course) to the new product and I am able to give you, my dear readers, a thorough, detailed and based on an actual long-term experience opinion on the products I test. Based on all of this, you might find the number of the products I use as underwhelming, given how many products other bloggers (say) they use every day, and every day, there’s a ton of new products presented… Also, as mentioned, since I try to keep my skincare routine as steady as possible, there won’t be a new skincare routine posted every day.
Anyway, my skincare routine is seeing quite a drastic change in the past week – which correlates to weather jumping from almost November-like to almost August-like: sunny and hot. During Winter, I may use a product or two more, but when a hot weather comes, just as with clothes, I prefer less or as little as possible on my skin.
Immediately upon waking up, I wash my face either with only water, only a hydrolate or both. When I decide to wash my face with a hydrolate, I first spray it on my face and then spray it on a cotton ball and wash my face. Currently I am using Alteya Organics Chamomile Hydrolate.
A few times a week I use a cleanser: preferably not an oil cleanser and preferable a gentle cream cleanser. Not washing my face in the morning in any capacity is not acceptable to me; if not for any other reason, then not wanting to feel all glued and not awaken. But at the same time, using a cleanser every morning is also not something I adhere to, as cleansing face too much strips the skin of natural oils. The Alteya Organics Cleanser I’ve been using lately, is a gentle cream cleanser; in the morning, I use one pump of this cleanser, gently apply it on my skin, kind of like a cream, and gently massage it and then rinse it with a lukewarm water.
If I apply a mask, or layer a serum and a cream in the evening, then the chances of me using a cleanser in the morning are greater; if I use only, for example, a hydrolate and/or a toner, then I don’t.
About once or so a week I apply the Jane Scrivner Intense De-Stress Mask before proceeding with my usual morning skincare routine; the mask is nourishing and gives a rested appearance. I make sure to wash it off under 10 minutes, as I’ve noticed it otherwise clogs my pores. When I use this mask, I do not use a cleanser before, as I do not want to apply and wash to many products in order to not overwhelm my skin. Then I spray my face and neck with a hydrolate again, and wait until my skin drinks it up, before applying other products.
Until very recently, I first used Ere Perez Moringa All-Beauty Creme as a primer before applying a liquid foundation or a BB cream. It’s a dreamy cream: it glides on the skin, quickly absorbs, is light, hydrating and makes a makeup application perfect. But now, that it’s hot, I’ve been using the Ere Perez cream only under my eyes, while I apply the Madara Antioxidant Sunscreen SPF30 all over my face and neck. Not only does it contain a high SPF, it also works nicely a primer before makeup; I’ve been gradually switching from Inika Liquid Foundation and Inika BB Cream Foundation to Ere Perez Quinoa Water Foundation, then to Lavera 2-1 Compact Foundation and soon I will switch to Inika Loose Mineral Powder Foundation.
Make sure to check back soon, as I will be updating my makeup routine.
For about two months, I’ve been using L’Odaites Replenishing Serum, which I mix with a liquid foundation or BB cream. It’s more of a face oil than actual serum in terms of having concentrated active ingredients, but mixed with foundation, it gives a natural finish, with a subtle healthy glow.
After I finish applying my makeup, I use the Alverde Rose Toner as a setting spray: it gives that dewy finish look, and the makeup looks even and lasts longer.

In short, here is how my morning skincare routines look like:
- wash: water and/or hydrolate
- cleanse: Alteya Organics gentle cream cleanser a few times a week
- mask: once a week masking with Jane Scrivner Intense De-Stress Mask
- primer & hydrate: Ere Perez Moringa All-Beauty Creme as a hydrating primer or only under my eyes
- SPF protection: Madara Antioxidant Sunscreen SPF30
- for foundation: L’Odaites Replenishing Serum mixed with foundation
- setting: Alverde Rose Toner as a setting spray
Keep your skincare routine simple, offer the skin what it needs, do not overwhelm and burden the skin with too many steps, products and don’t switch the products too quickly and too often – let the skin breathe and adapt.
For some of the products I’ve already posted a full review and some will be reviewed soon, so make sure you check back.
