The minimal skincare routine in these hot Summer days that I adhere to in the morning follows in the evening as well. Given I’m wearing sunscreen, a double cleansing is often a must, along with light but thorough hydration.
My Evening Skincare Routine: Cleansing
On the days I wear sunscreen, a double cleansing is a must. I try to combine it with first using a lighter Kathleen Cleansing Lotion, though I am mostly saving this gentle cleanser for my morning skincare routine, or a bit thicker but still creamy Alteya Organics Gentle Cleanser. For the second cleanse, I use Alteya Organics Facial Cleanser & Wash in Vanilla & Geranium: it gently cleanses and removes any of the remaining impurities. It’s also very affordable, and I, of course, have at least 2 other Alteya Organics Facial Cleanse & Washes on my wishlist.
I make sure to have at least one if not two days a week when I wear no products on my face – aside from regular spraying of hydrolates, of course. On such days, I only use a tiny amount of a gentle cleanser in the evening, be it Kathleen Cleansing Lotion or Alteya Organics Gentle Cleanser.
My Evening Skincare Routine: Toning
After cleansing comes the imperative part of my skincare routine – spraying with hydrolates. I switch them up, I mix them together; I alternate between various Alteya Organics hydrolates, whether it’s the chamomile one to calm my skin or melissa one to uplift and control skin oils – or both.
Once a week I pour a bit of Jane Scrivner AHA/BHA Resurfacing Exfoliator on a cotton pad and gently tap it on my face; this is not a toner per se, of course, but a liquid exfoliator.
My Evening Skincare Routine: Moisturizing
The products I am using for my evening skincare routine during this hot Summer somewhat correlate with the products I am using for my morning skincare routine as well – light and very hydrating.
After toning, I use either Fom London Anti-Pollution Hydra Plump Serum but more often Ere Perez Quandong Green Booster Serum. Both serums are water-based, light, very hydrating and quickly absorbing – and likewise, quickly disappearing, as my skin is drinking them up. If I use the Fom serum, I apply the Ere Perez one under my eyes, and occasionally, a dab of Jane Scrivner OO Cream. For the neck area, I am using a thin layer of Nature’s Kitchen Super Protein Skin Boosting Anti-Ageing Moisturiser. Moisturizing products are always followed by a generous amount of spraying of hydrolates.
My Evening Skincare Routine: Masking
Lately, I’ve been using the Clockface Charcoal Face Mask to draw out excess of oil and prevent potential clogged pores; given this is a clay based mask, and can be a bit harsh and drying during Summer, I use it about every 10 days or so. When I use this mask, I always follow with hydrating serums. On evenings, when I use the Madara Regene Volume Rebuilding Lifting Mask or Bloomtown Soothing Mask, I only use an abundant amount of hydrolates and nothing else as to not overload my skin.
My Evening Skincare Routine: Exfoliating
While exfoliating is an important part of my skincare routine, I am stretching the days between exfoliating treatments now: I make sure there’s at least one week between using Madara Peel Mask and Andalou Naturals Lemon Sugar Facial Scrub, since I am double cleansing more often than usually.
My Evening Skincare Routine In Short:
- Cleansing: Alteya Organics Gentle Cleanser, Alteya Organics Facial Cleanser & Wash in Vanilla & Geranium and Kathleen Naturals Cleansing Lotion
- Toning: Alteya Organics Chamomile and Lavender Hydrolates; once weekly the Jane Scrivner AHA/BHA Toning Exfoliator
- Moisturising: Fom London Anti-Pollution Hydra Plump Serum; Ere Perez Quandong Green Booster Serum; Jane Scrivner OO Cream; Nature’s Kitchen Super Protein Skin Boosting Anti-Ageing Moisturiser
- Masking: Madara Re-Gene Mask; Bloomtown Soothing Mask, Clockface Charcoal Face Mask
- Exfoliating: Andalou Naturals Lemon Sugar Facial Scrub; Madara Peel Mask, Jane Scrivner AHA/BHA Toning Exfoliator
My current evening skincare routine is based on quickly absorbing and light hydrating in a form of water-based serums, and gentle cleansers for the double-cleanse treatment, given the hot weather and thus sweating and oiliness and of course – sunscreen. And – as always and even more so – hydrolates.
