About a week ago, I received an elegant gift box with organic goodies from an up and coming British organic brand Mel Millis. Inside this elegant box was, aside from the Mel Millis Phytonutri Rose & Pomegranate Rebalancing Body Oil I will review today, also a travel trio and… a hand-written personal note to me from the gracious founder of Mel Millis. The (unfortunately almost lost art of) hand written note nicely corresponds with the aesthetics of Mel Millis brand: introduction of Mel Millis brand, an elegant menu of all the Mel Millis products, and the products themselves packaged in a recycled paper containing British wild seeds, which can be planted. Cute touch there, Mel Millis!

Mel Millis Phytonutri Rose & Pomegranate Rebalancing Body Oil Review

Mel Millis offers three lines of body oils: Re-energize (Neroli & Baobab), Rebalance (Rose & Pomegranate) and Revitalise (Frankincense & Myrrh). The lines draw inspiration from the circulation of life’s energy inherent in all things and the quest to obtain balance between the negatives and positives in our body.

Mel Millis 3 lines of body oils

I’ve chosen to review the Mel Millis Phytonutri Rose & Pomegranate Rebalancing Body Oil, especially since I really like beauty products which contain Rose Damascena.

Mel Millis Phytonutri Rose & Pomegranate Rebalancing Body Oil comes in a 100 ml dark glass bottle, which corresponds with a need to keep carrier and essential oils from direct light. I would have preferred a bottle with a pump for an easier application; a bottle like their face cleansing oil comes in.

Mel Millis Phytonutri Rose & Pomegranate Rebalancing Body Oil Review

Mel Millis Phytonutri Rose & Pomegranate Rebalancing Body Oil is of a medium thick texture, with a slightly brownish color. The scent –  unique, inviting and sensuous, indeed – is that of a bit of a fruity due to pomegranate. There’s a whiff of precious rose damascena oil scent, along with chamomile and neroli, while the scent of rosehip and geranium oil is more pronounced. The scent of this body oil lasts for hours, never over-powering. Mel Millis Phytonutri Rose & Pomegranate Rebalancing Body Oil absorbs pretty quickly, thus perfect for use in the morning when you dress up to face the day. You will notice your skin so very nourished and silky smooth.

Let’s take a closer look at the ingredients.

Argania Spinosa (argan oil), Rosa Canina (rosehip oil), Cucurbita Pepo (pumpkin seed oil), Punica Granatum (pomegranate seed oil), Adansonia Digitala (baobab oil), Rosa Rubignosa CO2 Extract (rosehip oil extract), Tocopherol (vitamin E), Pelargonium Graveolens (geranium oil), Rosa Damascena (rose), Anthemis Nobilis (chamomile oil), Citrus Aurantium (neroli oil), Rosmarinus Officinalis (rosemary oil)

Mel Millis Phytonutri Rose & Pomegranate Rebalancing Body Oil ingredients are expected to be found in some super expensive face oil, packaged in 15 ml bottle. Ingredients-wise, this is one of the most luxurious body oils I’ve ever seen. Argan carrier oil is rich in essential fatty acids and it’s known for its anti-aging and antioxidant properties. Rosehip oil is rich in Vitamin F (omega 3 and omega 6), promotes skin regeneration. Pumpkin seed oil is another potent antioxidant, rich with essential fatty acids and skin-firming and lifting properties. Pomegranate oil, the super-fruit, potent antioxidant and high in ellagic acid, promotes skin’s elasticity. Rosehip CO2 Extract, rich in Vitamin C, promotes skin’s hydration as well as collagen production. Geranium oil balances and regulates the sebum, promotes skin circulation and is a good lymphatic cleanser (used against cellulite). Precious Rosa Damascena Oil needs no explanation. Chamomile oil has anti-inflammatory and soothing properties. Neroli oil, another expensive oil, has soothing properties, balances sebum and promotes skin-cell regeneration; it is also used against stretch marks. Rosemary oil is cell-renewal stimulant and promotes and improves circulation.

If these ingredients were in a facial oil, the facial oil would be luxurious; the fact that they are in a body oil, is – decadent (as in: self-indulgently highly pleasurable).

Price? £48/58€. Expensive? Yes. Quite. But so are the ingredients in this body oil. Mel Millis Phytonutri Rose & Pomegranate Rebalancing Body Oil is simply not a body oil to be used on a daily basis, but reserved for special pampering moments, even though its texture and quick absorption is perfect for using it any time. With no preservatives, aside from antioxidants in oils, it should be used in 6 months after opening. Would I buy it myself? Oh, I would, even though it would be rather difficult to pay 58€ for a body oil.

Having said that, the ingredients in this luxurious body oil and the formulation itself are completely suitable to be used as a face oil as well. We’ve consulted on this with the formulator and founder of Mel Millis, and she assured us that the body oil can be used as a face oil. When we apply that with 58€ for a 100ml oil with excellent and very expensive ingredients, then the price becomes reasonable. It may be too expensive for some, since there are body oils available for, say, 10€, but keep in mind the ingredients in these oils; while the ingredients are natural and in most cases organic, they are not such expensive ingredients as, for example, argan oil, rose damascena oil, neroli oil and chamomile oil.

This is one of the best, if not the best, body oils I’ve come across, thus I highly recommend Mel Millis Phytonutri Rose & Pomegranate Rebalancing Body Oil.
