Has there ever been a turn of a month as strange as this one? So much of our lives has been put on hold, turned upside down… On a bright side, this month’s Love Lula Beauty Box has brought a sense of familiarity, a sense of excitement – as it does every month. The contents of this month’s Beauty Box cover basically all the needs – including hair care, body care and face care with 4 full sized products and one travel-sized product and I like all of them. The value of this month’s Beauty Box is £75, but you can get it for a fraction of that with a subscription.
So, what’s in this month’s Love Lula Beauty Box?
♥ Kathleen Natural Sensual Rose Body and Massage Oil (100ml/£34,00). With Spring officially arriving, and having such warm and sunny weather I’m walking around in short sleeves and thinking of putting on flip flops, a body oil seems like it’s missed its target for a a month or two… and then a few days later, on the top of everything that’s going on in the world – at the end of March, snow appears! *sigh* So, a body oil all of the sudden, on a brink of April, makes sense, in the times when nothing does. Back in October 2018 (this seems, especially now, so far away, doesn’t it, like a different world), I received the lavender version of Kathleen Natural’s body oil, and a few months later, the same-scented Rose bath shower gel, which I really liked – the scent was right after my heart, and so is this body oil: a gentle, flowery scent, which lasts in accordance to its scent source – natural essential oils one. The massage body oil absorbs quite fast, but not fast enough to be used after a morning shower when you’re in a hurry. But for the evening pampering of the skin and senses, this Rose body oil is a luxurious treat. The one complaint that I have is the same as I did with the Lavender body oil as well as the shower gel – its price. With £34 for 100ml, despite Rosa damascena being one of the ingredients, is too steep of a and unreasonable price.
♥ Madara Purifying Foam (150ml/£18,50). This foaming cleanser has been around for quite some time. While I prefer as non-foaming cleansers as possible, I have to say this one is not as harsh for my skin as I thought it would be – from a foaming ingredients stand point of view only. The foam feels light and gentle on the skin, the cleansing process is quite thorough – as a morning cleanse or an evening one if you didn’t wear (much) makeup. There’s one ingredient (and it’s present in many Madara products) to which my skin does not and did not react positively and that is alcohol. It dries my skin and makes it irritated and tight. From what I can tell so far, little goes a long way with this foaming cleanser – that is when you don’t have too much you need your skin to be cleansed of. The price falls somewhere in between.
♥ FOM London Anti-Pollution Glow Serum Travel Size (30ml/£52,00 for full size). As I’ve been using the quite watery Fom London Hydra Serum for quite some time now, especially during last Summer, I have, of course, noticed the glow serum as well. This serum is also an interesting one – its texture similar to another Fom London’s serum – the hydra night bright complex one (we’ve got in March 2018 Love Lula Beauty Box) but with a twist of a subtle glow. As it absorbs quickly, I will leave this one for the morning skincare routine – more precisely – as a (minimal) makeup primer. The full size is quite pricey, but I might be tempted to get the full size of this serum as well.
♥ Biovene Barcelona Shampoo & Conditioner Bar (40g/£5,99). In last month’s Beauty Box, we received a shampoo bar and it made me curious to try more shampoo and conditioner bars – and Love Lula has quite a few available. In this month’s Beauty Box, Love Lula offered another shampoo bar accompanied with a conditioner bar. This couple of bars is from a Spanish brand called Biovene – until now, I haven’t tried anything from them. Given I adore flowery scents (as opposed to citrus ones) the chances of me trying this particular scent of a shampoo and conditioner bar would be on a lower side – luckily for me Love Lula included them in my Beauty Box. Why luckily? Because both the shampoo and conditioner smell really lovely. In fact, the first (and lasting) association I got when I first smelled these two bars is something from my childhood, I just can’t recall what exactly. The shampoo lathers quite richly and cleanses the hair; the scent of the shampoo lasts less than I wish it did. I had more difficulties with applying the conditioner – mostly, and that goes for both the shampoo and conditioner, due to their shapes (in comparison, the shampoo bar we got in last month’s Love Lula Beauty Box was more flat and oval – in short – more handy), so this is something, I hope, Biovene looks into. The conditioner makes the hair easily manageable and soft, but it takes a long time to apply both, especially the conditioner, as you have to wet the bars over and over. And on this note, there’s another thing I have to point out; while wetting the bars, the option of running the water while doing it is not an attractive one, for the obvious reasons. So my advice is to have a bowl full of water into which you continue dipping the bars in order to achieve the foam. Yeah, it’s not as handy as liquid shampoo and conditioner, no doubt about it, and it takes more time than I wish it did. I am not certain whether the price of these two bars is appropriate or not, as I am not sure how long these two will last, but I will most certainly keep an eye on this and get a few more solid bars of shampoo and conditioner available at Love Lula and write a detailed post on them.
So this concludes my first impressions of this month’s Love Lula Beauty Box. The theme of this month’s Beauty Box is a nicely scented Beauty Box, covering nearly all the needs, from body, face and hair care. I like all the products featured in this month’s Beauty Box, with the Rose body oil being my favorite even if very over-priced. The Madara foaming cleanser is a gentle one, but the alcohol as one of the ingredients is making a cleanser which I wouldn’t have picked otherwise. The solid bar shampoo and conditioner, along with having a lovely scent on one hand and not being handy on the other, will go into my collection of solid bar hair products for the more detailed post on such products. The Fom London Glow Serum is a light, fast absorbing one and I think it will work nicely as a makeup primer during hotter days.
And all these products have a total value of £75,00 whereas the actual cost of the yearly Love Lula Beauty Box subscription is £12,66 (or £16,60 for international customers) per month (yep, even less than it was before). You also get a discount on all the brands featured in a current Beauty Box and even this discount got even better – now you can get all the brands featured in a Beauty Box for 25% off!
