L’Odaïtès Replenishing Serum, containing prickly pear seed oil, delivers soft skin, while Gentle Exfoliator, with fine dates fruit powder gently exfoliates, resulting in smooth skin.

L'Odaïtès Replenishing Serum and Gentle Exfoliator Review

I was first introduced to this French brand L’Odaïtès via receiving their exfoliator in my Love Lula Beauty Box, and I’ve been using it for quite some time now, making it a welcomed addition between my chemical exfoliators and a bit harsher, for the lack of a better word, mainly sugar-based exfoliators. The oil-based serum, with precious pricky pear seed oil, works nicely as a night treatment, but mostly, I’ve been using it as an added mixture to liquid foundations ans BB creams.

L’Odaïtès Replenishing Serum

L'Odaïtès Replenishing Serum and Gentle Exfoliator Review

L’Odaïtès Replenishing Serum comes in a 15ml bottle with a pump, for more accurate , as well as for keeping the contents from outside . Given the serum is oil-based, its texture is more on a thicker side. The scent is prominently citrusy, though there’s a very distant scent of rosemary, too.

A serum is a skincare product, containing a concentrated amount of active ingredients. Usually, a serum is used before other skincare/makeup products are applied; somewhat of a base product, to enhance the absorption of other products, working in synergy with them. The L’Odaïtès Replenishing Serum, given it’s not water-based, takes a bit longer to absorb, but by no means not too long; in that regards, I suggest going with the “less is more” when applying this serum: two pump max for both the face and neck.

The L’Odaïtès Replenishing Serum can be used as an alone product or in combination with other products. For the evening skincare routine, I’ve been using this serum both alone or in combination with a facial moisturiser or face mask. After using this serum, the skin looks and feels soft in the morning. For the morning skincare routine, I’ve been mostly using the serum for mixing it with my liquid foundation, just that I use it less than when applying it as a night treatment. It nicely mixes with a liquid foundation, and gives a subtle glow, however, since this is an oil-based serum, I won’t be using it as a makeup primer anymore when the weather gets warmer.

The serum contains ingredients, suitable for those, who are looking to uplift the skin with antioxidants, fatty acids and for those, who wish to purify the skin with rosemary and neroli. For very oily skin, this serum might not be suitable for day time, as it may be a bit too heavy, even when used only a smaller amount, whereas for those with dry skin, I am sure their skin would drink it up.

L'Odaïtès Replenishing Serum and Gentle Exfoliator Review

The L’Odaïtès Replenishing Serum is an OK skincare product, containing proven skin-beneficial oils such as jojoba, almond and apricot oils, along with the precious prickly pear seed oil, known for its potent antioxidant properties. Used alone or in combination with other skincare products, whether it’s a moisturiser or a face mask, it results in a smooth and soft skin, whereas it also works nicely as a primer, mixed with liquid foundation or BB cream. Rosemary and neroli make it suitable for oily skin when used for an evening routine, while suitable for drier skin in a morning routine.

The price? £52 for 15ml – which makes it very expensive, and despite the serum containing expensive prickly pear seed oil, the cost is not justifiable. Yes, a serum contains a higher concentration of active ingredients, mostly peptites, extracts etc; this serum however contains more vegetable oils and a few essential oils, not quite making it a concentrated with actives product.  I do like the fact there’s only 15ml of this product as opposed to, say, 30ml or 50ml, as the product is used up faster, thus making it stay fresher, and smaller packaging has always been more expensive, it still, given the ingredients, does not justify the high cost.

L’Odaïtès Gentle Exfoliator

L'Odaïtès Replenishing Serum and Gentle Exfoliator Review

When I first opened the 60ml jar of L’Odaïtès Gentle Exfoliator, it reminded me of an exfoliator I used to make at home, mixing coffee, various oils and honey: it’s a dark brown, sweet smelling mixture of oils and honey. Unlike most exfoliators, the L’Odaïtès Gentle Exfoliator is quite runny and its contents have to me stirred with a wooden spatula, in other for the ingredients to mix together properly. Its texture is gritty, but finely gritty due to dates fruit powder, which works as the exfoliation ingredient. Given an exfoliation is a must in my skincare routine, thus having tried many exfoliators,, a dates fruit powder being the exfoliator was a new experience for me.

The exfoliator is runny and smooth and its tiny fruit dates powder exfoliators make this exfoliator easily spreadable, thus there’s no tugging and pulling of the skin. I usually slightly splash my face before applying the exfoliator, and then gently massage it for a few minutes. Given how gentle it is, it makes it suitable even for those, who have sensitive skin, while making it suitable for more frequent use as well. The L’Odaïtès Gentle Exfoliator contains water (even if it’s in the smallest quantity), yet it is still an oily, mixed with honey “paste-like” texture, and precisely due to being a mixture of honey and oils, should be used as a waxy cleansing balm would; meaning, just rinsing it off with warm water is not enough, instead, remove it with a warm wash cloth and proceed with either a cleanser or toner to remove it thoroughly, otherwise you might experience clogged pores and maybe even some redness.

L'Odaïtès Replenishing Serum and Gentle Exfoliator Review

Given the L’Odaïtès Gentle Exfoliator is a gentle one, I’ve been using it in between chemical exfoliators and stonger, usually sugar based exfoliators. The results are visible immediately: smooth, soft and fresh skin. The exfoliator also contains antioxidants and soothing aloe vera for a nice pampering session.

How about the ingredients?

Sunflower seed oil has a high content of unsaturated fatty acids. It is rich with Vitamin A, D and E. It spreads easily and is quickly absorbed. It is an antioxidant and a moisturizer and it promotes skin regeneration. Olive leaf extract is an antioxidant with high content of essential fatty acids (linoleic, oleic, palmitic), thus great for dry skin and lips. It has soothing and healing properties and is a great moisturizer.

Aloe Vera has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties; it is soothing, moisturizing and promotes wound-healing. Honey is rich with amino acids, peptides and vitamins. It’s an antioxidant with antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties, and promotes soft lips.

Potentially problematic ingredients?

  • Sodium Levulinate, an antimicrobial preservative, derived from levulinic acid (corn). There are some inclinations this ingredient to be an irritant, even at low doses, whoever, at this point,  there’s not enough data regarding potential effects it has on the skin.
  • Parfum.

L'Odaïtès Replenishing Serum and Gentle Exfoliator Review

The L’Odaïtès Gentle Exfoliator is indeed, a gentle, due to fine dates fruit powder, exfoliator, suitable for a more frequent use. It contains antioxidant and soothing ingredients, but since it also contains oils and honey, it should also be treated as a cleansing balm, thus just rinsing it off is not enough. The result is smooth and soft skin, ready to either absorb other treatment products or making the skin a smooth canvas for makeup.

The price? £42 (used to be £39 when I received it in my Love Lula Beauty Box) for a generous 60ml, yet still, the price is quite steep, but this exfoliator lasts for quite some time.
