Bloomtown Soothing and Clearing Mask and Tinted Lip Balm are very affordable, yet highly effective hand-made skincare products. The clearing mask and the soothing mask work hand in hand for a pampering session, sprinkled on top with delicious scents.

Bloomtown Soothing and Clearing Mask and Lip Balm Review

Bloomtown, a UK green beauty brand, is proving effective, deliciously smelling, hand-crafted and all natural green beauty products at a very affordable price point can be made. When Love Lula launched Bloomtown, I, more or less, immediately grabbed a few of their goodies, while quite a few being left on my wishlist; going through the ingredient lists and seeing a very low cost, upon using several of the Bloomtown products, the only cheap aspect of them is – indeed – the price, whereas the products and their performance easily puts far more expensive green beauty products to shame.

For starters, I picked two of their face masks: the clearing mask, excellent for oily and acne prone skin, and the soothing mask, which perfectly follows the clearing one. Of course, it goes without saying, I just had to get my hands on their tinted lip balm as well – deliciously, as are the masks as well, smelling lip balm.

Bloomtown The Clearing Charcoal & Tea Tree Treatment Mask could not be more perfect for oily, congested and acne prone skin; aside from detoxing charcoal and kaolin clay, this clearing mask contains anti-bacterial essential oils made for oily, congested and acne prone skin, such as tea tree and rosemary, along with the natural salicylic acid – white willow bark extract. Due to charcoal, this mask is of a dark grey color. The scent of the mask introduces it as a mask with an attitude: quite edgy and strong, which translates into Bloomtown not being stingy with concentration of the ingredients used. Its texture is quite thick, but nonetheless easily spreads, especially since it contains glycerine.

As usually, before applying a face mask, I first spray my face with a hydrolate; when using detoxifying and clearing masks, I like using tea tree or witch hazel hydrolate. The Bloomtown clearing mask is not a dry mask, as it contains water and glycerin. I use my fingers to apply this mask – just as I would applying a cream. I leave it on for about 20-30 minutes; sometimes I spray a bit more hydrolate onto the mask, a habit, I guess, from using dry masks, though it’s not necessary, as this mask does not dry up, so there’s also no tight feeling on the skin. Aside from detoxifying and cleansing, this mask also warms up, giving the skin a thermo treatment as well, which works nicely on congested skin by melting and softening it.

Immediately upon rinsing off the clearing mask, you feel this swoosh of refreshment, due to rosemary and tea tree. The result on the skin? Refreshed, warm, and less oily. Long term result? Less congested, cleared and detoxed skin.

How about the ingredients?

Ingredients: plant-derived glycerine, kaolin clay, charcoal powder, melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) leaf oil, aqua, leuconostoc (radish root ferment filtrate), salix l. (white willow) bark extract, lactobacillus, citrus aurantium bergamia (bergamot) fruit oil, juniperus communis (juniper) fruit oil, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf oil, juniperus virginiana (cedar) wood oil, pinus sylvestris (pine) leaf oil, cocos nucifera (coconut) fruit extract, d-limonene*, linalool* *naturally occurring in essential oils

Kaolin clay is a fat absorbent and an abrasive agent. It tones and cleans the skin of toxins, while promoting circulation. Charcoal powder is a potent detoxifying agent.

Tea tree oil has potent antibacterial, anti-fungal, antiseptic properties. White willow bark extract contains salicin , natural beta hydroxy acid ; it promotes skin cell turnover. A natural skin exfoliant/peeling, it unclogs and clears pores. Bergamont fruit oil, Cedar wood oil and Juniper fruit oil have astringent and antiseptic properties, making them very useful for people who have oily skin. Rosemary oil is an antioxidant; it promotes and improves circulation and stimulates cells renewal. It has antimicrobial properties and is great for oily, acne and blemishes prone skin. Pine leaf oil has antioxidant and anti-irritant properties. It reduces redness and balances oily and acne prone skin- Coconut fruit extract, is hydrating and excellent for dry skin. It has anti-fungal and antiviral properties and is rich in Vitamin C and A.

Glycerine is humectant and lubricant.

Potentially problematic ingredients?

Lactobacillus, marketed as natural preservative, it contains a synthetic anti-fungal preservative called undecylenic acid (mostly found in products targeting fungal infections).Otherwise, it promotes exfoliation by maintaining balanced hydration. Contains healthy bacteria that convert elements into Lactic Acid. It refines and perfects skin’s texture. It should also be noted these ferments are used as preservatives as well – and the process they are obtained is not all that natural.

Leuconostoc/Radish root ferment filtrate is a preservative, similar to Lactobacillus.

Bloomtown Soothing and Clearing Mask and Lip Balm Review

I’ve been using Bloomtown clearing mask approximately twice a week, for many months now, and I gotta say, my skin has gratefully accepted the effectiveness this mask has on my oily and sometimes congested skin. It feels good while applied and after – it just has this great effect on my skin; so much so that I think I may have been applying a bit too thick of layers, thus, unfortunately, my jar is nearly empty.

Price? £12 for 60ml! How affordable is this, right? What a great clearing and detoxifying face mask, excellent for oily and congested skin.

Bloomtown The Spring Blue Clay & Indigo Leaf Soothing Mask is another great and affordable product from Bloomtown, and perfect as a follow-up to the clearing mask. The soothing mask is a great choice for those with sensitive skin, as well as for a spoiling session, not only due to delicious scent of this mask. If you experience irritation, or if you have dry skin, in need of some deep conditioning, or just looking for a mask which will plump up, soothe and nurture you skin – the Bloomtown soothing mask just might be it. Just as the clearing mask, the soothing one, too, is glycerine-based, so it does not dry up, but smoothly apply and does not tighten the skin.

Bloomtown Soothing and Clearing Mask and Lip Balm Review

The texture of this mask is on a thicker side, yet all the ingredients are whipped together into perfection. The color of this mask is also unique and beautiful: a bit of an indigo blue and a bit of a light grey. The scent? Marvelous! – somewhere between sweet coconut and, of course, Indigo Leaf and Nettle Root.

Even though tempted, I try to apply less of this beautiful mask; again, it just feels so good on the skin. Due to its color, you will look, for the time being you’re masking, a bit blue-ish and grey-ish. The mask feels warm (though not as much as the clearing one), and indeed – soothing on the skin; you can feel it’s really working. I leave it on for about 20 -30 minutes, then rinse with water; from time to time I do spray a bit of a rose hydrolate over the mask, though, again, it’s not necessary, as this is, despite containing bentonite clay, not a dry mask, therefore always feels like a thick cream.

After I rinse the soothing mask, my skin feels relaxed, smooth, soft, soothed and nourished as well; that non-oily glow testifies of the effect it has on my skin. Following the soothing mask, I only spray some rose or chamomile hydrolate, and leave my skin as is, with no other face products applied; not only is my skin nourished and soft after using this mask, but I also let my skin be bare, especially on the days I am having a masking pampering session.

Bloomtown Soothing and Clearing Mask and Lip Balm Review

Another great green beauty product from Bloomtown: highly effective mask, which lives up to its long name, as it delivers everything it promises: it soothes, it softens and calms down irritated skin, while also nourishes and provides a pampering feeling.

Price? Yeah, the soothing mask is also just £12 for 60ml. As I’m saying, Bloomtown creates highly effective products at a very low cost – it can be done, even if it’s sometimes hard to believe given the unreasonable and sometimes even greedy price points we see with green beauty products.

As a thinner layer of this mask does the needed job, you can easily stretch this soothing mask for around 6 months of joyful pampering.

How likely is that I would pass up on the opportunity to try Bloomtown Red & Berried Tinted Lip Balm as well? Not very.

Bloomtown Soothing and Clearing Mask and Lip Balm Review

Everything about this tinted lip balm makes me feel nostalgic; when I was a little girl, I had a similar red tinted lip balm; I can still remember its scent. This tinted lip balm comes in a cute white aluminium container and the scent is – and this is a re-occurring theme with Bloomtown products – delicious: if you like sweet berry-scented lip products, you won’t want to pass up an opportunity to try this one.

The texture of this tinted lip balm is, even if it contains butters, quite sturdy and waxy, so it takes a bit of a swirling around with a finger before you get the lip balm out. It starts melting soon upon the touch of your finger and once applied on the lips, it gives this a bit glossy look, but by no means sticky. Despite looking quite berry and dark in a tin, this is – after all – a tinted lip balm. On the lips, it gives a hint of a color; given I have naturally more red lips, the finish look for me is that of a gentle berry, with a bit of a pink undertone. If your lips are paler, the berry color will be less subtle.

How about the ingredients?

Ingredients: prunus amygdalus dulcis (sweet almond) oil, ricinus communis (castor) seed oil, organic theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter, euphorbia cerifera cera (candelilla) wax, natural flavour (aroma), vitamin e (tocopheryl cetate), natural colour (iron oxides CI77491, CI77742)

Sweet almond oil has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It is rich in essential fatty acids (especially linoleic acid) and Vitamin E. Great for sensitive skin. Castor seed oil, has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties; it conditions the skin. A thick oil, with high fat content and as a water binding agent, ideal for very dry skin, perfect for use in lip balms. Cocoa seed butter, an emollient, is high in Vitamin E. It promotes collagen production and is great for dry skin.

Potentially problematic ingredients? None.

Bloomtown Soothing and Clearing Mask and Lip Balm Review

Just as the two previous Bloomtown products, I am a fan of the Tinted Lip Balm as well. Delicious scent, naturally colored lips, and given it contains butters and oils, perfect for lip products, it also leaves the lips soft and nourished. The scent, again, as with all the products I’ve tried so far from Bloomtown, is also delicious.

Price? £4,80 for 20g, which, only in comparison with the above mentioned masks, may be a bit higher, it’s still, nonetheless, perfectly acceptable for this beautiful tinted lip balm. Having said that, you can also get the Bloomtown Tinted Lip Balm for FREE.

Given the not so positive aspects of certain parts of so called green beauty community and its race to create and promote the most expensive products possible, I am sure many would pass up on the Bloomtown products, with a snob-like and, quite honestly, sometimes ignorant, attitude, saying Bloomtown products are not up to par solely due to their very low cost. Luckily for me, I’ve been using green beauty products for so long now and seen where the green beauty community, unfortunately, stands right now, that I know a great product when I see and try one.

Bloomtown Soothing and Clearing Mask and Lip Balm Review

Bloomtown are hand-making cute, affordable, very effective products, and they do so with high quality ingredients, and they are not stingy when it comes to ingredients’ concentrations. I am very pleased with all their products I’ve tried so far; I’ve been also using one of their body products, specifically one of the scrubs, and given how much I’ve been liking everything I’ve tried so far, I’ll get a few of their body products in the near future as well, and post a review, including the body scrub. Given how wonderfully Bloomtown products smell, I am planning on getting a few of their dry body oils and body washes; but that will have to wait until Autumn, when I’ll start using body oils again; but also, since I have so many body lotions to use up during Summer – what can I can, Love Lula has been spoiling us with all the body lotions we’ve received in their Love Lula Beauty Boxes.

In conclusion: Bloomtown products come highly recommended by me!
