It’s that time of year to take a look back and wrap up the happenings of the year that’s nearly over: Best of Green Beauty 2020. Year 2020, in comparison to any, but for the sake of argument, in comparison to 2019, was not as productive. There was a lot of taking things one day, week, month at the time, so many things were happening, time was passing by quicker than usual… If I managed to review 30 products last year, I managed to post “only” 10 reviews this year, along with monthly first impressions of Love Lula Beauty Box and a some skincare and makeup routines – all in all, not completely lacking, but still not what I had in plans, had not that surreal situation happened and if my health were better.
This is a round up of this year’s best green beauty products which received full reviews:
♥ Kathleen Natural Lotion Cleanser. This cleansing lotion falls under “wait, is this bottle leaking?” category (read: this is such a great product I am using it all the time and even if I just got it, it’s nearly run out already). As my skin reacts negatively to so many cleansers, either immediately or eventually, due to foaming agents and/or concentration of foaming agents, it’s hard for me to find a cleanser, which would not irritate my skin and thoroughly cleanse as well – Kathleen Natural Cleansing Lotion does just that, along with leaving my skin soft and nourished. Yes, this is a water-based cleanser, meaning there are such ingredients as various emulsifiers as well as preservatives (only a strictly oil-based cleanser would not need preservatives) and someone else’s skin may react differently to any of the ingredients in this cleanser – after all, everyone’s skin is different. I am glad my skin has been having such a positive and accepting reaction, and even more so – I am glad that I can use this cleanser as an eye makeup remover for my very easily irritated eyes. Performance-wise, though, Kathleen Natural Cleansing Lotion comes highly recommended by me: if you’re looking for a gentle cleanser, which will thoroughly cleanse your skin, but leave it soft and without a tightening feeling and without stripping your skin.
♥ Alteya Organics Rose & Mullein Collection. Alteya Organics Gentle Cleanser is gentle to the skin yet removes makeup as well as any impurities on the skin. Even though the cleanser contains a few mild foaming agents, there’s basically no foaming; the cleansing performance of this cleanser falls onto cleansing ingredients massaged onto the skin as opposed to foaming. The skin is left cleaned, soft and hydrated and there’s no tight feeling. Alteya Organics Hydrating Toner texture is of a very runny cream/milk. There’s a tiny bit of a foaming action going on as well (due to Disodium Cocoyl Glutamate), very unusual for a toner, right? Upon spraying it, at first it feels a bit sticky, but then, when it absorbs into the skin, it just leaves an invisible feeling of smoothness and softness on the skin. I could even argue it’s almost like a very runny, diluted serum, upon which you can layer other products, while on the other hand, you can even use it a mild cleanser? Alteya Organics Light Serum texture is a very light and runny and creamy – serum. Just a few dots on the face are enough, as the serum spreads nicely, and absorbs fast. Similarity to the toner, at first, it seems like it left a bit of a sticky trace, but then it quickly disappears and all that is left is a smooth, soft, matte and so lovely smelling and hydrating serum – which can be used alone or for layering other treatments, and given how smooth, matte and basically invisible it is, it really works well with other products – whether it’s a face oil or foundation – both will just glide on. The serum itself isn’t alone feeling light on the skin, the hydration also makes for a very light feeling on the skin, yet so very prominent as far as effectiveness.
♥ Jane Scrivner OO Cream. A versatile face cream – when in doubt, which face product to use, you can always count on this one to deliver the promised: hydration, a feeling of nourishment and a lovely scent. It’s suitable for basically any skin type and can be used for any occasion and in any season, whether it’s a liquid/mineral foundation, to lock in face oils or on its own to provide deep hydration – and when used on its own, the hydration will come with a matte finish, which will be especially liked by those, who have oily skin.
♥ Madara Plant Stem Cell Antioxidant Sunscreen SPF30. If you’re looking for a great sunscreen, then Madara Antioxidant Sunscreen Cream is a great choice: a citrus scent, no white cast leaving, waterproof, containing antioxidants and – what we all came here to see – a really great protection from UVA and UVB.
♥ Ere Perez Moringa All-Beauty Crème. Versatile, both in for nearly any skin-type as well as and above all – the many different usages, Ere Perez Moringa All-Beauty Crème is the go-to cream for any occasion: hydrating and fast absorbing, it can be used by those who have dry as well as oily skin. It can be used as a light night moisturizer on its own, or after a light serum as well as before a face oil. It can be used as a day cream, for its velvety and healthy dewy look, especially when opting for a very minimal makeup. But above all, the Ere Perez Moringa All-Beauty Crème is an excellent primer – both for mineral powder foundation but even more so for a liquid foundation.
♥ Benecos IT Pieces Collection. With palettes being all the craze in the past few years (and, let’s be honest here – an easy and fast money grab), and with so many being overpriced, the Benecos IT Pieces Collection – a “create your own palette” collection of very affordable compact powders, eyeshadows, highlighters, blushes… this palette won’t make you feel like you’ve been bamboozled. The palette itself is on a smaller size, with the compartments you accessorize the empty palette as you wish yourself, makes this Benecos IT Pieces Collection/Palette a great choice to create your own versatile makeup palette, at your own pace and it won’t dry out your wallet. Just as the combinations of compact powders, highlighters, blushes and eyeshadows are plentiful, so are the uses of each of these products versatile: a compact powder can be used as an eyeshadow, so can be both of the highlighters on their own or mixed with other eyeshadows, the blushes can be mixed with highlighters… it’s up to your imagination, really.
♥ Benecos Lipbalms. The formulation/ingredients are the same in all of the Benecos Lipbalms, with only one different ingredient – the scent/namesake ingredient. The ingredients in these lipbalms are classical ingredients for a lipbalm: there are nourishing, softening butters such as shea and cocoa butters; castor, olive, jojoba and sunflower oils and waxes. All of the Benecos lipbalms I’ve been using have pretty much the same texture: more sturdy, hard and waxy. They are all so easy to apply, they just softly and smoothly glide over the lips. Despite being formulated with butters, the lipbalms are not greasy and are an excellent choice as a lip primer for lipsticks. The ingredients, consisting of lip-beneficial ones, provide for nourishment, hydration and softness.
♥ Ere Perez Australian Blue Cypress Face Nectar. Just another Ere Perez product that impressed me; lovely scented face oil, which hydrates and refreshes the skin and makes it ready for makeup – whether liquid, cream foundation, BB cream or just minimal for a natural dewy look. The ingredients (and there isn’t a ton of them) work in synergy, delivering hydration while also conditioning and balancing oily skin – however, this oil will work its magic on any skin type.
Honorable mention of some of the products which will be reviewed next year, but are used daily already
♥ Oils of Heaven Raspberry Oil. I’ve been using this oil as a primer under my makeup (or minimal makeup look), as it acts almost like a dry oil, meaning it absorbs pretty fast and doesn’t leave a greasy look, while at the same time you get a natural dewy look and hydrated skin. There’s a reason why the Raspberry seed oil has been one of my favorite carrier oils for so long.
♥ Oils of Heaven Plum Oil. I just love the feeling on my face in the morning after the skin had all night the time to absorb this wonderful oil: soft, less bumpy… And the scent is quite interesting as well… I think it reminds me of a dry plums. Sweet. Sugary. Fruity.
♥ Oils of Heaven Cucumber Oil. This Cucumber oil is amazing: absorbs quickly, the skin feels the hydration nearly immediately. It has soothing and calming effect on my skin and I just love the way my skin looks and feels in the morning. Cucumber oil, full with antioxidants, is a carrier oil suitable for all skin types – irritated and sensitive due to its calming and soothing effect, dry and dehydrated due to its immense hydration, oily due to its balancing effect. While perfect for hot Summer days or rather nights, it’s also a great choice for harsh cold Winters – whether outside when it’s cold or inside due to heating. I am certain this bottle will not last till Summer, and will have to get another one. Cannot recommend this Cucumber oil more!

All in all, despite being a difficult and unpredictive year, I think I still managed to offer quite a good number of detailed and analytical reviews of quite a good number of green beauty products. Of course, all those articles I’ve had planned will be a part of the plan for year 2021, plus a lot more!
A very special note of thanks to Love Lula for spoiling me with these goodies! ♥
