Dec 212018

Hello greenies! As every year, since I’ve started my green beauty blog, I am signing off for the Holidays. But before I do that, I’ll do a year in review: a collection of the best products I’ve reviewed in 2018. There are many more products I’ve been testing and using this year, but haven’t gotten their proper review yet, so you know 2019 will be packed with more reviews, more articles. As it’s been a long time since I’ve done a Readers questions post and there’s tons of your questions and comments waiting to be put in a post, I’ll do one soon in 2019 as well – some of your comments you’ve sent my way will also be included in my views of the state of the green beauty community: believe me, there’s a lot of people that share your views, maybe not publicly, but I’ll be the one to do it, despite how some shun from honesty. Yes, this year saw a rise of mediocrity and some seriously disturbed individuals. The number of high quality blogs within the green beauty community has, unfortunately, fallen, that’s why I cherish even more those honest, knowledgeable (and sane!) individuals, who do good.

For the past three years, since the tragedy in my personal life, I am unsure how to understand time anymore. It’s such a conundrum, such a paradox to me. On one hand, it flies by so fast, I am, sometimes, unable to keep up. At the same time, yesterdays seem so far away. As I was going through the posts I’ve written this year, they all seem so far away. I did plan quite a few more, but time was always stronger than I was. However, those posts that were published, were done so with honesty, attention to detail, based on my decades of experience and knowledge; all with you, my dear readers, in mind, so you can get the best information possible. Even posts, which was about my first impressions, were far from what has become a standard in green beauty community: these posts were also detailed and none of the posts contained copied material, be it from other bloggers (you know darn well who you are, you thieves!) or just a description of a product from a store. So no matter how pressed for time I may have been or will be in the future, I will make sure you draw from my fast knowledge and experience pool and my commitment for always being honest, unique and true to myself; if this is the type of a person one is, it comes naturally and easy. Seeing your work stolen and then praised is something else; but unfortunately, even and more and more so in green beauty community, ugliness is coming to the surface.

I’ve been quite busy on my blog this week, as I’ve posted My Winter Green Beauty Routine (and I promise, I’ll do my makeup routines more often, as well as skincare routines!) and my first detailed impressions and personal thoughts (all copied by the scary broad, of course!) on December Love Lula Beauty Box. This week has been quite busy in my personal life, preparing for the Holidays, and now I am all done, and plan on having many dinners, reading, painting, writing, listening to classical music and walks in my beloved forest – in fact, I plan on OD’ing on wandering around my forest (there’s some 280 degrees of about 15km of forest around my country house! How blessed am I?! There will be very little to none of me on line or social media, even though, when it comes to social media, I am not glued onto it 24/7 as it is.

I’ve reviewed quite a few products this year; I’ve gathered a collection of them, ranging from makeup to skincare and body care and hair care. I very much look forward to 2019 – it will be a year for many changes in my life, as well as a year for many more reviews and new things on my blog. I never run out of ideas, creativity – only out of time.

May you be blessed, may you be surrounded by good people, by love, may you draw new boundaries where needed, may you feel peace in your soul, may you not falter on your faith, may you keep God in your heart. May you have a warm and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Ere Perez Quinoa Water Foundation Once you figure out the best application, it is a great foundation; light and thus perfect for Spring and Autumn. It offers equally light coverage and evens out the skin tone, while allowing the skin to shine through and breathe. A medium coverage is achieved with applying more foundation right from the get go as opposed to building coverage, given this is a fast drying (but non-drying to the skin) water-based foundation. Applied properly, this foundation does not streak nor does it set into fine lines and perfectly lasts all day long, without you even knowing you’re wearing a foundation. While the formulation is minimalistic, it still contains ingredients, which have antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. The foundation is a great choice whether you have dry or oily skin – and even those, who have acne prone skin will find this foundation to be a great choice, as Quinoa seed extract, along with promoting skin elasticity, lessens the production of sebum, thus making the skin less oily.

RMS Beauty Signature Set – Pop Collection This elegant, minimalist palette of five pans is truly a treat for any fan of a high quality and excellently performing natural beauty products. Each of the products in this palette can be used on their own and you can achieve a minimalist and natural look with just these pans. Above all, all these pans are versatile and can be used for other than their designated purposes, along with the fact you can mix them all depending on your imagination. All the products are formulated with organic and very stable ingredients, which have antioxidant, antimicrobial and hydrating properties.

Ere Perez Carrot Color Pot What’s really interesting about these color pot balms is the contrast between the texture of the balms and the final finish. The balms’ texture is balmy, soft and a bit buttery, whereas the finish, the final look on the lips is, while also very soft, also matte-ish and very light – at no point do they feel heavy or dry on the lips. The color pot balms are also very pigmented – the colors are rich – for some, they may be even a bit too rich, but that can be circumvented by either applying a lip balm before applying these color pots or simply – applying less of a lip balm; true, they are called lip balms, but the richness of these balms is that of a lipstick.

Inika Cream Illuminisor Perfect for those, looking for a natural-looking and natural as far as ingredients go, illuminisor, which perfectly works as highlighter and blush. The finish is a subtle, though easily buildable and spreadable glow, with a hint of a pinky and peachy color. The Illuminisor works well with liquid foundations as well as mineral ones; depending on your skin, if you have dry – a bit of a moisturizer is advised, if you wish to wear only a natural pinky glow.

RMS Beauty “Un” Cover-Up Concealer I get it why this tiny pot of a RMS Beauty “Un” Cover-Up Concealer is such a sought-after green beauty product. The formulation is, as far as the ingredients go: simple and to the point, with no potentially problematic ingredients. When used as a concealer only, it covers up imperfections almost perfectly. There’s a bit of a creasing when used as an under-eye concealer, given the concealer is on a thick side, due to its butters and waxes, but the creasing can be minimized by using a setting powder (its companion, RMS Beauty Tinted “Un” Powder, does the setting work nicely).

Inika Loose Mineral Foundation If you’re looking for a high quality, all natural, with a minimalist ingredients formulation, great coverage but a natural looking finish loose mineral foundation – you’ll find it in Inika Loose Mineral Foundation. Easily appliable and spread, it can be used as a full coverage foundation or for a minimum coverage applied over concealer. I do suggest using some type of a primer either before applying the foundation, or mixing it with a primer. The Inika Loose Mineral Foundation is made for any skin type, including sensitive – it won’t irritate your skin or eyes. Its staying power is strong: minimal transfer, does not slide off and works incredibly well during hot days; not only does it stay put when you’re sweating, it also feels very light on the skin – just minding its own business and delivering the promise of a great mineral loose foundation. It also cooperates nicely when applying a blush and/highlighter, even if they’re creamy (though in most cases, I prefer using a mineral blush over mineral foundation).

La Mav Nightly Repair Nectar Rich and thick facial oil, the La Mav Nightly Repair Nectar is full of skin-beneficial ingredients – antioxidants, vitamins, ingredients with calming and anti-irritating properties, along with hydration boosters. A minimal amount of this precious nectar is needed in order to achieve a hydrated, radiant and calm skin; the lovely scent, especially that of a cucumber, is just a cherry on the top of this great skin care product. After nearly a year of using La Mav Nightly Repair Nectar, I can report of no side effects, no irritation, only nourished and hydrated skin – rested and calmed skin.

Alteya Organics Bulgarian Rose Water Spray and Bulgarian Rose Lip Balm If you’re looking for a high quality rose hydrolate – the Alteya Organics Bulgarian Rose Water Spray and Alteya Organics White Rose Water Spray are a great choice. It’s obvious these two rose hydrolates are actually – hydrolates – a by product of rose oil distilation (as opposed to ordinary water containing not-worth-mentioning drop of rose oil, if at all; some use artifical fragrant rose oil instead of a much more expensive rosa damascena rose oil) and these hydrolates contain actual rose oil remains. I’m not sure when was the last time I came across a lip balm, which actually had that true rose scent – the Alteya Organics Bulgarian Rose Lip Balm has it, which means the rose oil is not only in the name of a product, but the lip balm does contain a fair amount of rose oil. The lip balm is nourishing, buttery, with a lovely and quite lasting rose scent – hat’s not to like – especially if you are a fan of roses and use lip balms almost like a rose uses water.

Lavera Rose Lip Balm If you’re looking for a high quality lip balm – basically a tinted lip balm – with a very natural looking and very pretty pink looking lip balm – then I could not recommend the Lavera Rose Lip Balm more! Containing quite a lot of ingredients, perfect for a lip balm – antioxidants, moisturizers – from vegetable oils and butters, this lip balm, with it’s melting soft texture will keep your lips smooth, soft, hydrated and pretty with its quite pigmented gorgeous pink color. And the scent is also lovely!

Madara SOS Hydra Moisture & Radiance Mask Delivers what it promises: a hydration boost to your skin and a radiant skin, which is soft and velvet to the touch. With a regular use, you’ll notice this even more. It works well when used alone or in a combination with a facial oil; the skin is especially thankful, if you use this mask after a clay-based mask and/or exfoliation. The mask contains ingredients, which deliver hydration and anti-aging as well as anti-inflammatory benefits.

Lyonsleaf Marshmellow Facial Oil If you’re new to green beauty and want to switch using all natural products, but don’t want to spend too much money right from the get go – get the Lyonsleaf Marshmellow Facial Oil – it’s an affordable facial oil, which will provide your skin with everything it needs: it will soften, nourish, moisturize and calm your skin. This facial oil contains all the right ingredients and none of the toxic, including any preservatives, aside from the antioxidant Vitamin E. It’s easily spread and absorbs quickly and you’ll wake up with a rested, hydrated and soft skin. For those, who either have sensitive skin or prefer a facial oil without essential oils (though you’ll miss on the pleasant scent), Lyonsleaf has this exact same facial oil but unscented.

La Mav Hyaluronic Acid Hydra-Max Serum Another great product from La Mav: with its simple yet effective formulation it delivers hydration boost for any type of skin, with no negative reaction. It contains naturally effective antibacterial and antioxidant ingredients. The texture leaves the skin silky and well-prepared for layering of other products, as this serum is very cooperating: whether it’s a facial oil, facial mask or makeup – mineral or liquid foundation, this serum delivers. And when used alone, the skin is hydrated with a natural glow.

Joik Refreshing Toner A very decent facial toner; even though it is water based, it does not feel cheap. The toner contains a good mixture of skin-beneficial ingredients, containing vitamins, antioxidants and antibacterial properties, making it suitable for all skin types. It’s refreshing, uplifting and works nicely as a final cleansing touch; the skin won’t be stripped, but soft. Some may find it a tad bit annoying that some parts of the toner may not be thoroughly mixed together and may not come out easily out of the bottle, but I didn’t mind it; in fact, those parts feel especially nice and soft on the skin.

Sukin toner Walks a line between a strong cleansing toner and a mild cleanser; it thoroughly cleanses the skin of any remains of makeup and leaves the skin matte. Given it contains coconut and a coconut derived cleansing agent, it proved to be a bit comedogenic for my acne-prone skin.

Pacifica Persian Rose Body Butter and Solid Perfume Anyone, looking for an elegant, beautiful rose scented body butters and solid perfumes – look no further; Pacifica Persian Rose Solid Perfume and Body Butter are your excellent choice. Beautiful packaging is just an added bonus. The body butter will leave your skin smelling great and feeling like velvet, while providing hydration and nourishment due to its many butters and vegetable oils. And the solid perfume, portable, non-greasy and smelling delicious – what’s not to like?

Elsa’s Organic Skinfoods Deodorant Handy shape, no toxic ingredients, all natural ingredients, mixed into a well working-together formulation, from antibacterial, to nourishing and wetness-absorbing ingredients along with being nicely scented due to essential oils. The scent itself is long lasting and strongly overpowers any body odor. So far, Elsa’s Organic Skinfoods Deodorants come only with 4 variations, one being unscented, and since the Love deodorant does not have enough, at least for me, strong rose scent, in case Elsa’s Organic Skinfoods come up with a pure geranium/rose scent, you know I’ll be the first to get my hands armpits on it.

Madara Shampoo and Conditioner Madara Gloss and Vibrancy Shampoo and Conditioner and Madara Nourish and Repair Shampoo and Conditioner are all excellent hair care products – in fact, one of the best shampoos and conditioners I’ve ever tried, and I’ve tried tons! Both shampoos are gentle on the hair, yet cleanse very well. Even after shampooing, the hair is soft and clean. Both conditioners, while one richer than the other, easily detangle the hair, leaving it vibrant, nourished and healthy. All of the products are easily washed off. While the nourishing duo may be a bit too rich for very oily hair, I could easily recommend all the products for any hair type – if your hair needs a pick me up treatment – dull, damaged, tangled, color-treated hair – for both the gloss and nourish duos of these Madara hair care products – your hair will be thankful.
