Benecos IT Pieces Palette is a create-it-yourself makeup palette consisting of an affordable assortment of compact powders, eyeshadows, blushes and highlighters.

Benecos IT Pieces Palette Review

A bit over a year ago, I reviewed two products from this affordable German green beauty brand, and since they’ve launched the IT Pieces collection and I’ve been collecting the refills for this palette for a while now, I thought it would be a perfect time to share with you my views of some of the refills; especially since it’s still Summer and these products are powder-based/dry formulations.

The Benecos IT Pieces Collection offers a small palette and quite a number of refill products to fill out this palette with a lot of combinations, whether it’s just eyeshadows, or blushes and highlighters, compact powders, or a mixture of any of these. When the collection was available at Love Lula, I was first curious about the highlighters, following the compact powders for Summer, but I had a suspicion I’ll need (at least) two different colors of compact powders to somehow mix the most appropriate color for me.

All of these refills for the palette are really affordable, making it much easier to collect a palette consisting of various makeup products. So, which refill products for the IT Pieces palette did I get?

Benecos IT Pieces Refillable Makeup Palette Empty (£5,65)

The refills come in a cute paper packaging; you just pull out the part of the palette, place the refills and voila! you have your custom makeup palette! The palette itself is more on a small size, but so are the refills and I find this particularly attractive: with small refills you have many options with you available, the products get used up quicker, the palette doesn’t take much room and you get to travel with a compact powder, blush and highlighter all at once…

Benecos Natural Compact Powder (£5,65/6g)

Benecos IT Pieces Palette Review

I was on a market for a compact powder foundation for the Summer and decided to try the Benecos Compact Powder. Looking at the photos, it was clear to me I will most certainly need more than one color to somehow achieve an appropriate one for my skin – depending also on which time of the year I’ll be wearing it. The first one that I got was the lightest one named Cold Biege 01, which was too light, but I thought I’ll use it to mix it up with a darker color, which I got later on, named Warm Sand 02 – and this one is substantially darker than the 01. However, given the Summer and having a darker skin tone (despite trying my very best not to get tanned!) as compared to the very light Winter one, the 02 proved to be not all that far away from my skin tone, but still needed to be mixed and lightened with the 01. The texture of these two compact powders differs: the Cold Biege 01 is softer so there’s also more fallout as compared to the Warm Sand 02 one, which is sturdier; both are quite soft and silky.

The coverage is quite strong and buildable, should you wish so. Dry formulation, a well moisturized and primer skin before Compact Powder application is must, in order to avoid looking dusty, chalky, dry and wrinkly. But upon primer application, this powder transforms into a a powder with a strong staying power and kind of melts with the skin. I suggest using a big kabuki powder brush and a light hand while applying this powder; I would also suggest against a buffing motion and instead suggest a light swirling motion to apply the powder. Both colors can be also used as an eyeshadow as well; you can also opt out of a base eyeshadow and use either of these two compact powders.

Benecos Natural Highlighter (£4,65/8g)

Benecos IT Pieces Palette Review

The Benecos IT Pieces Collection offers two highlighters – a gold one named Golddust and a silver one named Shooting Star. As they are both quite affordable I decided to get both of them. The Golddust is a classic and elegant champagne gold color. The Shooting Star is a textbook silver color. Both are very pigmented, the colors quite saturated, Both of the highlighters’ texture is silky soft, the formulation is sturdy (there’s no fall out) and will make the highlighters last a long time.

I suggest using a very modest and light hand when applying these highlighters; I use the bigger Benecos blush brush to just lightly, along the way, grab a bit of the product and with a brush almost in air, lightly and quickly sweep across a cheekbone, for example. The highlighters can also be mixed together, used as an eyeshadow, mixed with eyeshadows, as a lipstick toppers…

Benecos Natural Blush in Rose Please (£4,65/8g)

Benecos IT Pieces Palette Review

The blush, with its gentle and silky texture, spreads very easily over the skin. There’s no fallout and its staying power is basically that of over the whole day. Use a large blush brush and a gentle, light and a a bit of a shivering hand to apply this quite pigmented blush. The Rose Please color is an elegant, warm pink, with a stretched out and far away mauvish undertone, and with an old rose covered over. Mix it with a primer/cream and you get a cream blush or lipstick. Mix it with a oil and you get a lipgloss.

Mix it with above highlighters, and you get a blush with a gold or silver sparkle or a pink-gold or a pink-silver highlighter. You can also use it as an eyeshadow – on its own or mixed with other eyeshadows and highlighters. One small compartment of a blush, so many possibilities and combinations, right?

Ingredients: MICA, ZEA MAYS (CORN) STARCH*, ZEOLITE, OCTYLDODECANOL, CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC GLYCERIDES (CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE), MAGNESIUM STEARATE, CELLULOSE, AQUA (WATER), GLYCERIN, SODIUM ANISATE, PARFUM (FRAGRANCE)**, SODIUM LEVULINATE, LECITHIN, TOCOPHEROL, ASCORBYL PALMITATE, CITRIC ACID, CI 77891 (TITANIUM DIOXIDE), CI 77491 (IRON OXIDES), CI 77742 (MANGANESE VIOLET), CI 77007 (ULTRAMARINES), CI 77492 (IRON OXIDES) * certified organic ** natural essential oils

Benecos Eyeshadow in Whipped Cream (£3,95/1,5g)

Benecos IT Pieces Palette Review

The IT Pieces Collection offers quite a few single eyeshadows; since I have so many brown/Earth tone eyeshadows, I opted for a basic matte base color. Such color is either a base color for layering other, usually darker colors or as a stand alone color to achieve a natural, even a no-makeup look. It’s quite pigmented and more on a brighter side, so a little will go a long way and a thorough blending is a must.

Benecos Fun Size Mascara (£2,95/2,5ml)

Benecos IT Pieces Palette Review

The idea behind such small/smaller products is always appealing: whether it’s for testing the product or as a travel companion. And yeah, it’s also cute. As I’ve tried quite a few Benecos mascaras (and reviewed one here), I had quite a big of an expectation for this mascara as well. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the reputation of other Benecos mascaras: there’s no oomph! factor going on, there’s barely any of a product on the lashes… I am open to the possibility I’ve gotten a faulty one, but…

How about the ingredients? I won’t analyze all the ingredients, but I will point out a few that might be of interest.

Pullulan is a film former and binder, it retains moisture and also prevents fungal growth.
Potassium Palmitoyl is a surfactant; Stearoyl Lactylate is an emulsifier; Pentylene Glycol is a solvent, a moisturizer and an antimicrobial preservative.

Benecos IT Pieces Palette Review

Potentially problematic ingredients?
Octyldodecanol is an emollient and emulsifier, which provides for a soft, silky feel on the skin. It can be a skin and eye irritant.
Pentylene Glycol is a synthetic solvent and preservative.
Glyceryl Rosinate is an emulsifier and emollient. There’s a strong evidence it’s a human skin toxicant or allergen, and has therefore a restricted use in cosmetics.

My final word?

Benecos IT Pieces Palette Review

With palettes being all the craze in the past few years (and, let’s be honest here – an easy and fast money grab), and with so many being overpriced, the Benecos IT Pieces Collection – a “create your own palette” collection of very affordable compact powders, eyeshadows, highlighters, blushes… this palette won’t make you feel like you’ve been bamboozled. The palette itself is on a smaller size, with the compartments you accessorize the empty palette as you wish yourself, makes this Benecos IT Pieces Collection/Palette a great choice to create your own versatile makeup palette, at your own pace and it won’t dry out your wallet.

Benecos IT Pieces Palette Review

Just as the combinations of compact powders, highlighters, blushes and eyeshadows are plentiful, so are the uses of each of these products versatile: a compact powder can be used as an eyeshadow, so can be both of the highlighters on their own or mixed with other eyeshadows, the blushes can be mixed with highlighters… it’s up to your imagination, really.

Benecos IT Pieces Palette Review

The cost of all these products that can fill up the palette is also quite low (though the Benecos products are even cheaper outside UK) – without the harsh limitations inflicted upon quality because of that. If you’re new to green beauty and are in a process of exploring green beauty makeup options or if you don’t want to spend too much on green makeup – then Benecos is a brand I’d suggest you give a try, you won’t be disappointed. I’ve been using Benecos makeup products for a long time now, and I tend to continue using them well into the future; in fact, I’ve been planning on testing and reviewing Benecos products outside of makeup line as well.

I’ve included Benecos lipbalms in some of the photos as well, simply because they are cute and to let you know I will be posting their review soon.
