Oct 312019

When I got my October Love Lula Beauty Box about two weeks ago, it was still warm and sunny; now it’s quite cold and windy – and the theme of this month’s Love Lula Beauty Box corresponds with a sudden season change: oily and thick creamy textures: a face oil, a face mask, a thick eye cream and a refreshing body lotion, along with a sample of a face serum. As always, the value of the Beauty Box, which for the month of October clocks at £59, far exceeds the actual cost.

So, what’s in this month’s Love Lula Beauty Box?

Love Lula Beauty Box October 2019

Balmonds Intensive Facial Oil (30ml/£22.00). With colder and windier season, I thoroughly switch back to using facial oils. This is my first try of Balmonds brand. The facial oil is quite thick and with a 30ml bottle, it will surely last a long time – even throughout the Winter. A tiny drop will do, whether used alone or in combination with serums, masks – and an even tinnier drop will work nicely when mixed with a creamy foundation. The formulation itself is nothing revolutionary, though; sure, it contains calming ingredients such as Calendula oil and Chamomile essential oil, and has a lovely scent due to Lavender and Palmarosa essential oils – and, essentially, there’s nothing wrong with this facial oil, but as said, it’s nothing revolutionary and the cost of this facial oil is far too high, despite containing expensive Chamomile oil, however, the % of it in this 30ml bottle is far too low for the facial oil to be priced so high. All in all, this facial oil would be suitable for all skin types (unless essential oils present as irritating) – Grape seed oil is good for oily skin, Calendula and Chamomile are calming, while Rosehip oil is an all around excellent oil for any skin type.

Love Lula Beauty Box October 2019

Laidbare Pack Your Bags Eye Cream (30ml/£7.99).  Laidbare are known for their low priced products, and this eye cream is not much different. The texture of this eye cream is quite thick and thus far more appropriate for an evening skincare routine – but that’s what’s sold as anyway. Given its texture and ingredients, it’s more nourishing than hydrating, but it also has a bit of an resting effect on the skin. In the morning, I have noticed a bit of a flattening effect. A little truly goes a long way and will last probably the whole year.

Dr Botanicals Cocoa & Coconut Superfood Reviving Hydrating Mask (30ml/£9.90). The ingredients in this facial mask are tricky, as it contains coconut oil (as well as cocoa butter), which my skin considers comedogenic. This is a very rich and thick facial mask, and I approached it with a dose of skepticism and closely followed instructions of leaving it on for only 2 minutes – due to coconut oil – but, when it comes to masks, unless they contain (a higher %) of AHA and BHA, hydrating masks should be left on a bit longer in order for the ingredients to work their magic. This facial mask also contains kaolin clay, which has a drying effect on the skin, so it’s a bit of a conundrum going on with this mask. I did not notice much hydration deliver with this mask, though I did notice a bit of a nourishment and a matte finish effect after rinsing it.

Love Lula Beauty Box October 2019

Seascape Island Apothecary Uplift Body Lotion (300ml/£16.00). The texture of this body lotion is a tad bit on a runny side – it’s quite thin – for a body product, that is. Its absorption is not the fastest, but it immerses into the skin after about 2 minutes. The skin feels very soft, and it feels almost like there’s a matte emulsion applied on the skin. The scent is quite – wintery – due to Eucalyptus, with hit of Lavender – all in all, very uplifting and refreshing; this is how it feels on the skin as well, almost having a cooling effect, making it a nice choice for a Winter morning. There’s a lot of this lotion – 300ml, so it will take a long time to finish this bottle (plus is it’s a pump bottle). I am a bit overloaded with all the body products from Love Lula Beauty Boxes, though. This body lotion contains a few ingredients, which I am not fond of, such as Disodium EDTA, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol and Citral.

Mossa Glow Coctail Serum Sample (full size 25ml/£13.00). This serum contains quite a few good ingredients, and along with reasonable cost, I might be intrigued to try a full size, but the biggest concern that I have is Isoamyl Laurate, which most certainly would be comedogenic for my skin (as are most iso- ingredients).

Love Lula Beauty Box October 2019

This concludes my first impressions of this month’s Love Lula Beauty Box: with 3 full sized products, 1 travel sized and a sample sachet, covering face and body care: a face oil, a face mask, an eye cream, a body lotion and a face serum sample; the textures are oilier, creamier and thicker – nourishment for the colder and windier days ahead. The Balmonds Facial Oil, is a thick and rich oil, and while there’s nothing wrong with its formulation, it’s nothing new or groundbreaking and priced too high. The Laidbare Eye Cream’s texture is also a thick and nourishing. The Dr Botanicals Face Mask is not as hydrating, and anyone who has acne prone skin and knows Coconut and Cocoa are comedogenic for their skin, would probably pass this face mask. The Seascape Body Lotion is quite runny, but provides smoothness to the skin and a refreshing cooling effect.

And all these products have a total value of £59,00 whereas the actual cost of the yearly Love Lula Beauty Box subscription is £12,66 (or £16,60 for international customers) per month (yep, even less than it was before). You also get a discount on all the brands featured in a current Beauty Box and even this discount got even better – now you can get all the brands featured in a Beauty Box for 25% off!

Oct 302019

I can’t recall as beautiful October as this one has been – very warm and sunny; up until now, when it’s gotten rainy and quite cold. I’ve been using several different textures of makeup, specifically foundations, switching between creamy, water-based and finally – a BB cream foundation. The colors have been (and will have continue) rotating around earth brown and berry ones…

My Makeup Routine #4

My Makeup Routine: Foundation

My Makeup Routine #4

I’ve been alternating between a few foundations this month. When it was still quite warm, I opted for the trusted Ere Perez Quinoa Water Foundation (full review here): after a light serum, I apply a drop of this foundation, then slightly buff it in before blending it out. This foundation is perfect for those, who prefer as natural as possible look, as the skin shines through, while achieving a natural healthy glow. I’ve been also using the Lavera 2-1 Compact Foundation: this foundation is more creamy and thick and the coverage stronger, but I apply a very minimal amount of it and thoroughly blend it out; with this foundation, a good base of a primer and/or moisturizer is a must – the Ere Perez Moringa All-Beauty Creme makes for a great choice, in order for the foundation to blend out easily and to avoid a heavy cakey finish. As the last few days have gotten quite colder and windier, I’ve started using more of the Inika BB Cream Foundation (review soon); this foundation also offers quite a strong and buildable coverage, I, again, use only a drop of it – sometimes layered upon or mixed with a tiny drop of an oil. For an application of all these foundation I use the high quality Ere Perez Multipurpose Brush. When needed, I apply a small amount of Benecos Natural Translucent Powder (full review here) under my eyes and over occasional problematic areas, in order for the product to stay put. The SPF choice is still Alteya Organics Rose Otto Face Sunscreen SPF25 (full review here), just that now I use less of it and only on certain parts of the face – I already apply a serum and/or oils and more creamy textures, so I don’t want to burden my skin with too many products.

My Makeup Routine: Eye Makeup

My Makeup Routine #4

A very subtle eye makeup is still my preferred choice, with autumnal earthly colors: I’ve picked the beautiful Inika Eye Shadow Duo in shade Gold Oyster (read my full review here) with its brownish golden tones – a little bit more lighter color and a tad bit darker one. Occasionally, I apply a tiny amount of Sarya EyeShadow in Mocha (I got it in my March Love Lula Beauty Box) – a matte mixture of medium gray and mauve-brown color, beautiful color but so very pigmented! The mascara of choice for this month has been the Ere Perez Avocado Waterproof Mascara (full review here)

My Makeup Routine: Blush & Highlighter

My Makeup Routine #4

For blush, I’ve been alternating between the RMS Beauty Lip2cheek in Demure from RMS Beauty Signature Set – Pop Collection (full review here) – when using eyeshadows and mascara; for a more barefaced minimal makeup look, I opt for the Ere Perez Carrot Color Pot in Holy – just a tiny bit of it. When using Inika BB Cream Foundation, I apply a tiny amount of Dr Hauschka Illuminating Fluid; with Lavera Foundation, I opt for RMS Beauty Living Luminizer from RMS Beauty Signature Set – Mod Collection (full review here). For the minimal makeup look, I opt for  RMS Beauty Master Mixer from RMS Beauty Signature Set – Mod Collection, which I apply on my cheeks as well.

My Makeup Routine: Lipsticks

My Makeup Routine #4

Berry tones – from Ere Perez Carrot Color Pot in Holy (read my full review here) – over a lipbalm, of course,a s it’s so pigmented, to Alverde Tinted Lip Balm and Bloomtown Red & Berried Tinted Lip Balm (read my full review here). As a lipgloss, I use the nourishing Madara Plum Lip Balm (from my July Love Lula Beauty Box).

My Makeup Routine: Almost Barefaced

My Makeup Routine #4

While my makeup is as minimal as possible as it is, sometimes I opt for an even more natural look: a bit of  RMS “Un” CoverUp Concealer (full review here) where needed, which I set with Benecos Translucent Powder; I also use this translucent powder on my eyelids to control the oil and achieve a matte look. Then I, with a very light hand, apply as even as possible layer of Ere Perez Translucent Corn Perfecting Powder, followed by a bit of a RMS Magic Luminizer and a tiny amount of  Ere Perez Carrot Color Pot in Holy. A minimal look is then completed with Alverde Tinted Lip Balm in Raspberry and a dab of Madara Plum Lipbalm as it doubles as a lipgloss as well or with Bloomtown Tinted Lip Balm.

In short, here is how my makeup routines look like:

  • foundation: Ere Perez Quinoa Water Foundation;  Lavera 2-1 Compact Foundation; Inika BB Cream Foundation; Ere Perez Transluscent Corn Perfecting Powder; Benecos Transluscent Powder; RMS Beauty Un-CoverUp Concealer.
  • eye makeup: Ere Perez mascara, Inika EyeShadow Duo in Gold Oyster; Sarya Eyeshadow in Mocha.
  • blush & highlighter: RMS Beauty Living Luminizer; RMS Beauty Master Mixer; Dr Hauschka Illuminating Fluid; RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek in Demure.
  • lipsticks: Ere Perez Carrot Color Pot in Holy; Alverde Tinted Lip Balm in Raspberry; Madara Plum Lipbalm.
  • SPF protection/priming: Alteya Organics Rose Otto Face Sunscreen SPF25; Ere Perez Moringa All-Beauty Creme
  • setting: Alverde Rose Toner as a setting spray; Benecos Translucent Powder

All my current routines, morningevening and makeup ones are now getting a bit more creamy,  there are a bit more layers, so I make sure they are thin as to not burden my skin too much. The colors are autumnal – earthly brown and gold and berry.

For some of the products I’ve already posted a full review and some will be reviewed soon, so make sure you check back.

* * *

How have you been adapting your makeup routine to the autumnal season? Which color combinations have you been feeling lately? Let me know!

Ere Perez Quandong Green Booster Serum, with potent antioxidants, extracts and acids, makes for a skincare poetry of a product – delivering a boost of hydration and a naturally glowy and healthy skin.

Ere Perez Quandong Green Booster Serum Review

Ere Perez, an Australian brand, is known for its high quality and beautiful makeup products. It doesn’t happen all that often, that a brand, which creates high quality makeup products, seamlessly transitions into a high quality skincare products – and vise versa – but Ere Perez has managed just that. My makeup bag boasts of quite a few Ere Perez makeup products (you can read my many reviews of them here) – all of them beautiful and of a high quality – so there’s no wonder I, when Ere Perez launched their skincare products, put them on my wishlist immediately – namely and firstly – the outstanding Ere Perez Quandong Green Booster Serum – a poetry for the skin.

Ere Perez Quandong Green Booster Serum comes in an elegant frosted glass bottle with a dropper; in a way, it may have been a bit more pragmatic to package this serum in a pump bottle – for the sake of preserving the serum longer (that is, if you manage to contain yourself and not splash your face with the whole bottle).

Touted as a green smoothie for the skin, the Ere Perez Quandong Green Booster Serum, indeed, looks like a green smoothie, thanks to such ingredients as Chlorophyll and Spinach Leaf. Curiously, a while ago I reviewed another product containing Chlorophyll, and it had that distinctive freshly cur grass scent, the Ere Perez Quandong Green Booster Serum, however, does not; in fact, it has basically no scent.

Ere Perez Quandong Green Booster Serum Review

Ere Perez Quandong Green Booster Serum is a water-based serum, meaning it’s far lighter tninner in its texture than an oil-based serum, yet – not as thin and watery compared to, for example, the FOM London Serum, which means this product does not consists of majority of water – the active ingredients are present, indeed. It’s almost like, well, a smoothie. Yes, a little goes a long way and the serum applies easily, but my experience with this serum has been that of me wanting to splash my face with it – it just simply feels so good in the skin! I just like this almost instant boost of hydration I feel on my face, the gentle and calm feeling. It absorbs fairy quickly; at first, there’s a bit of an emulsion-like feeling on the skin, which then turns into a soft, gentle layer.

Ere Perez Quandong Green Booster Serum Review

I often use serums as a base before applying other skincare products (be it a thicker moisturizer or a primer/foundation), but sometimes, most often in the evenings, especially when it comes to Ere Perez Quandong Green Booster Serum, I prefer to just enjoy in this luxurious serum on its own – after all, it delivers and covers so many aspects of a skincare product: it calms the skin, it makes the skin soft and naturally glowy – but above all, it delivers an abundance of hydration. It’s a miracle worker for dry as well as dehydrated skin; aside from deep hydration, it also nourishes the skin and promotes elasticity with its many skin-beneficial ingredients, consisting of Vitamins A, C and E. The star ingredient in this serum is, of course, the Quandong Fruit Extract, which has a potent antioxidant properties with its Vitamin C – and this was my first try of this ingredient.

* * *

So, how about ingredients?

Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Levulinic Acid, Quandong (Santalum Acuminatum) Fruit Extract, Alfalfa (Medicago Sativa) Leaf Extract, Raspberry (Rubus Idaeus) Seed Oil, Spinach (Spinacia Oleracea) Leaf Extract, Jojoba (Simmondsia Chinensis) Seed Oil, Sunflower (Helianthus Annuus) Seed Oil, Chlorophyllin-Copper Complex, Lactic Acid, P-anisic Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate, Resveratrol, Sodium Hydroxide, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Xanthan Gum

Quandong Fruit Extract is a potent antioxidant, containing a high amount of Vitamin C. Alfalfa Leaf Extract is a potent antioxidant. Raspberry Seed Oil, potent antioxidant, contains extremely high amounts of essential fatty acids; it improves the hydration and elasticity of the skin. Spinach Leaf Extract, a potent antioxidant and rich in Vitamins A, C, E and K. It rejuvenate and nourish skin, and slows the aging process. anti-oxidant properties is packed full of valuable nutrients to rejuvenate and nourish skin. It revitalize skin by evening and brightening, giving a radiant youthful appearance. Due to Vitamin K, it exerts an anti-inflammatory effect on skin, which can help minimize the appearance of dark circles under the eyes. It should be noted that many extracts, such as Spinach leaf extract, are prepared in water and glycerin, thus containing preservatives; some even Phenoxyethanol. Jojoba Seed Oil, an emollient, is natural to skin’s sebum; it soothes the skin and promotes collagen production. Sunflower Seed Oil, has a high content of unsaturated fatty acids. It is rich with Vitamin A, D and E. It spreads easily and is quickly absorbed. It’s an antioxidant and moisturizer.

Chlorophyllin-Copper Complex, a potent antioxidant, it protects the skin from premature signs of aging. Sodium Hyaluronate promots skin hydration; it maintains and attracts water, thus promoting a softer, smoother skin with less visible wrinkles and fuller appearance.

Resveratrol, a powerful antioxidant, promotes even skin tone. It is a potent inducer of sirtuin, which activates proteins that associate with the aging process to increase longevity. It also has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. The formulation of Resveratrol also contains Phenoxyethanol. Lactic Acid, is an AHA acid, used as an exfoliator in beauty products. While it has skin-beneficial properties, such as exfoliating and renewing the skin, as well as some anti-aging properties, any use of alpha, as well as beta hydroxy acids should be such of a caution.

Levulinic Acid and P-anisic Acid are preservatives

Potentially problematic ingredients?

Sodium Hydroxide, (EWG score 3) can be a potential irritant for skin and eyes.

* * *

My final word?

Ere Perez Quandong Green Booster Serum Review

I am a huge fan of face serums; whether they are oil-based or water-based, I use them almost daily, regardless of the season; sometimes alone, most often as a base for layering other products. Not all products are actul serums, even if they are sold as such. The Ere Perez Quandong Green Booster Serum is poetry for the skin – a true serum, with concentrated amount of active ingredients such as – to deliver and seal hydration – whether used alone or before applying moisturizers. The way it feels on the skin is incredible and the way it makes the skin look is equally impressive: soft, smooth, glowy and hydrated skin! It feels especially good on the sensitive, gentle part of the under-eye area, as it’s so soft, refreshing, hydrating and a perfect layer before applying makeup/concealer.

This serum is a treat for any type of skin: if you have oily skin – it promotes a balanced skin and contains antimicrobial ingredients, if you have dull and dehydrated skin, it contains hydration boosting ingredients, if you have sensitive skin, it contains anti-irritating ingredients (though, keep in mind that the extracts in this serum are formulated with Phenoxyethanol).

Ere Perez Quandong Green Booster Serum Review

Sure, Ere Perez says a little goes a long way, and it does – but! – I used nearly half of a bottle in the first two, three weeks once I started using it – the feeling on the skin and the results are just that incredible! Then I started pacing myself and using just a drop of it; which did cover my face but I admit, I was tempted to apply another layer and a little bit more of it. I could easily go through one bottle in a month!

The price? Given, sometimes, ridiculous prices that brands slap on their products, most that do not come close the high quality of Ere Perez Quandong Green Booster Serum, it makes the 30,00 (€34,60) for a 30ml bottle of this serum incredibly reasonable – provided, of course, you can pace yourself with the amount you apply.

Ere Perez Quandong Green Booster Serum is one of the best green beauty products I’ve ever used and if I could recommend it even more than I already do – I would!

* * *

Do you enjoy Ere Perez products as much as I do? Have you had the chance to try this amazing serum yet? How did you like it? Let me know!

Oct 242019

Unlike September, which was a bit rainy and gloomy, October lived up to its reputation – beautiful and sunny and warm, but still, my skin has been craving more creamy, oily and balmy textures. A quick thought: I know that seeing all these products at once seems like a bit too much, but I am not using all these products all at once, or every day – they are spread throughout months and while some have been re-purchased, I aim to use them up before getting new ones.

My Evening Skincare Routine #4

My Evening Skincare Routine: Cleansing

Accordingly with change of a season and wearing more creamy textures during the day, I’ve been using the Balm Balm Little Miracle Cleanser (from my September Love Lula Beauty Box)- an oil based, specifically – a rosehip oil based cleanser, which I gently massage into my skin, leave it on for a few minutes so that the warmth of my skin melts the oil cleanser. I then rinse the cleanser and use either a washcloth to entirely remove the oil cleanser of do a double cleansing by using the  Alteya Organics Facial Cleanser & Wash in Vanilla & Geranium: it gently cleanses and removes any of the remaining impurities. For the removal of eye makeup, I continue using the gentle creamy and non-irritating Kathleen Cleansing Lotion.

My Evening Skincare Routine: Toning

My Evening Skincare Routine #4

As always, using hydrolates is a must for me, so high quality  Alteya Chamomile Hydrolate or Alteya Organics Lavender Hydrolate or a mixture of both

My Evening Skincare Routine: Moisturizing

My Evening Skincare Routine #4

While water-based serums are still finding their way into my skincare routines, in the past few weeks, I’ve been, again, using  L’Odaïtès Replenishing Serum (read my full review here), which I layer with a light layer of either  Jane Scrivner OO Cream or a thin layer of Nature’s Kitchen Super Protein Skin Boosting Anti-Ageing Moisturiser. A few days a week I opt for a rich and nourishing Balm Balm Little Miracle Balm. Every now and again, I thoroughly spoil myself with using only the magnificent  Ere Perez Quandong Green Booster Serum – a poetry for the skin, as it delivers an abundance of hydration and natural glow. For the neck area, I usually use the very rich Nature’s Kitchen Rescue Cream (from my August Love Lula Beauty Box). For the eyes, I’ve been using the  Madara Eye Contour Cream (from my August Love Lula Beauty Box). Whichever combination I use for my evening skincare routine, I always spray a hydrolate on the top – it melts the textures together and makes for a soft and glowy skin in the morning.

My Evening Skincare Routine: Masking

About once a week I use the Madara SOS Hydra Moisture & Radiance Mask (read my full review here) as an overnight treatment for softness and hydration – sometimes I use it alone or over the L’Odaites Serum. Also, about once a week, I use the amazing nourishing and hydrating Bloomtown The Spring Blue Clay & Indigo Leaf Soothing Mask (read my full review here) – but not as an overnight treatment; I just leave it on for about 15 minutes. For clearing up the skin and controling the oilness of the skin, I use the  Clockface Charcoal Face Mask every 10 days or so.

My Evening Skincare Routine: Exfoliating

My Evening Skincare Routine #4

The exfoliating, as always, is a combination of chemical and mechanical one. About once a week, I use the  Jane Scrivner AHA/BHA Resurfacing Exfoliator – a strong deliverance of AHA and BHA. Every 10 days or so, I use another acid treatment – the  Madara Active AHA Brightening Peel Mask (read my full review here). As for the mechanical exfoliation, I’m using my long time favorite – the Andalou Naturals Lemon Sugar Facial Scrub, with L’Odaïtès Gentle Exfoliator (read my full review here) every now and again, especially now, since the weather is not hot anymore and this exfoliator is quite oily. And yes, the Andalou Naturals Scrub is also used for exfoliating the lips.

My Evening Skincare Routine In Short:

  • Cleansing: Balm Balm Little Miracle Cleanser; Alteya Organics Facial Cleanser & Wash in Vanilla & Geranium; Kathleen Naturals Cleansing Lotion
  • Toning: Alteya Organics Melissa and Lavender Hydrolates;
  • Moisturising: Ere Perez Quandong Green Booster Serum; L’Odaïtès Replenishing Serum; Jane Scrivner OO Cream; Balm Balm Rosehip Balm; Nature’s Kitchen Rescue Cream; Nature’s Kitchen Super Protein Anti-Aging Moisturiser; Madara Eye Contour Cream

My Evening Skincare Routine #4

Richer textures, from oils and balms and nourishing creams – but still thin layers – this is how my evening skincare routine has been these past weeks.
