Feb 262019

I can’t recall as sunny and warm Winter as it has been so far; it seems as if February has been applying to be the beginning-of-Spring month, along with the Valentine’s day month. But since we’re not completely there yet, with Spring, it can still feel a bit “Wintery”, a bit chilly and windy, this month’s Love Lula Beauty Box is thus a mixture of Valentine’s, with two perfume/aromatherapy oils – the Walden perfume oil scent being newly launched, and two rich creams, targeting dry and – since the two creams are non-scented – sensitive skins. And there’s an always welcomed, by me, product – a lip balm, heh. Five full-sized products in this month’s Love Lula Beauty Box, with a total value of £60, making it, again, by far the most affordable Beauty Box out there! And not only did Love Lula even lower the price of their Beauty Box, they’ve upped the discount on the featured brands as well – all the info at the end of my first impressions of the goodies from this month’s Beauty Box!

So, what’s in this month’s Love Lula Beauty Box?

Love Lula Beauty Box February 2019

Walden Natural Perfume Roll-On Oil in “A Gentle Rain” (10ml/£17,00). Love Lula’s own brand, Walden Natural Perfumes, is on a roll (pun intended) with launching new scents. A Gentle Rain scent falls somewhere between unisex and more for him than for her – it’s quite woody, upfront, decisive. It’s that scent of a strong man, wiping his brow, after chopping wood in a forest on a rainy October day; it would make for a great after-shave oil. For the ladies, who prefer woody scents, especially if patchouli is the dominant scent, you’ll find yourself liking it as well. This is yet another scent from Walden Natural Perfumes, which does not pull any cheap tricks with its ingredients and keeps a tradition of offering unique and luxurious, all natural, scents. I am still, sorta, patiently waiting for body oils of all of the launched scents so far.

Seascape Island Apothecary Soothe Sleep Oil (8ml/£10,00). In theme with the Valentine’s day, there’s another roll-on oil in this month’s Love Lula Beauty Box – this oil doubles as an aromatherapy treatment for a calm and soothing sleep due to lavender, mandarin and orange essential oils, as well as a perfume oil. At first, the citrus scent is prevailing, but once the essential oils mix and set into the skin, the lavender pops up. If used as a soothing-before-sleep oil, it’s best to apply it on your temples and pulse points on your neck and arms; I also apply it on the back of my hands to breathe in the lovely and relaxing scent. Lovely.

Love Lula Beauty Box February 2019

Crazy Rumors Hot Cocoa Balm (4,4ml/£3,99). Any Love Lula Beauty Box with a lip balm is a good Beauty Box, hehe. Crazy Rumors is another brand whose products I’ve been using for years; I’ve tried quite a few of their lip balms; I mainly keep returning to the Bubble Gum one. The one we’ve got in this month’s Beauty Box is a perfect Winter treat for any chocolate (and lip balm) addict – hot cocoa with marshmallows. The ingredients of Crazy Rumors lip balms are exactly what you’d expect from an all-natural lip balm: buttery, nourishing and hydrating, targeting dry, chapped lips, with a tempting scent and taste. Rich and yummie. I’ll post a full review of some of the Crazy Rumors lip balms I’ve amassed through the years sometime in the future.

Balm Balm Fragrance Free Face Balm (30ml/£9,50). I’ve tried two other Balm Balm multi-purpose balms from Balm Balm brand – the geranium one and the tea tree one; this one, from Balm Balm fragrance-free collection, is made for those, who either have very sensitive skin, especially in regards to scented products, or for those, who prefer unscented products. This is a rich, shea butter based balm, with a nourishing and calming calendula oil and jojoba oil – perfect for all types of skin. Along with sensitive skin, it targets dry to very dry skin. For those, who might find this balm a bit too rich to be used as a face cream – this balm can be used as a body balm, hand cream, cuticle cream… It’s a very rich and thick cream and a little goes a long way. Perfect also for babies!

Love Lula Beauty Box February 2019

PHB Ethical Beauty Gentle Moisturiser (30ml/£20,00). Recently, PHB Ethical Beauty has launched a new collection of face care products; this moisturiser being one of them. While unscented in a sense of containing no essential oils, there is some type of scent; it reminds me of some type of glue? The texture is what I’m used to in body lotions not so much in face creams. The formulation is not all that impressive to me; given it’s a water based one, there’s a lot of fillers in a form of emulsifiers, and not that many natural ingredients (shea butter, apricot and sunflower oil). While I don’t mind a more simple formulations, I am equally unimpressed with such formulations as the one in this moisturiser – there’s nothing innovative. I too often get the impression that this brand puts the minimum effort into the ingredients used and formulations themselves, at least when it comes to skin care products. Given the ingredients and formulation, the price therefore does not correspond; in comparison: the above mentioned Balm Balm Face Balm costs half as much, but contains basically the same (natural) ingredients, sans the fillers due to this one being a water-based one. Yes, the Balm Balm one is richer and this one not as thick, but still. I’ve used this cream as a night cream several times, and while I can’t report of any adverse effects, I was missing that “something’s happening on my skin” result. Used as a hand cream and/or body lotion instead?

Love Lula Beauty Box February 2019

So, these are my first impressions of the five full-sized products from this month’s Love Lula Beauty Box – it’s a mixture of rich, non-scented face care products, roll-on perfume and aromatherapy oils and a sweet Winter lip balm. Five full-sized products of a total value of £60 – whereas the actual cost of the Love Lula Beauty Box is a barely-worth mentioning fraction of it – £12,66 (or £16,60 for international customers) per month (yep, even less than it was before). You also get a discount on all the brands featured in a current Beauty Box and even this discount got even better – now you can get all the brands featured in a Beauty Box for 25% off! I may not like or be impressed with each and every product in every Love Lula’s Beauty Box (and I argument my views), but that doesn’t mean that we don’t get a great value every month, a lot of great products and many recommendations for the products we may not have paid attention to; not to mention new launches! As a quick note: there’s one particular product I received as a sample/travel sized in one of my previous Love Lula Beauty Boxes, with which I was so impressed, I had to get a full size of it – and will review it soon!

How did you like this month’s Love Lula Beauty Box? Did you get a product you’ve had on your wishlist already? Found any products you may not have tried otherwise? Let me know!

Lavera Wild Rose Body Care Collection is an affordable collection of lovely and beautifully rose scented body care products: body wash, body lotion, deodorant roll on and deodorant body spray, which anyone, who likes natural rose scented green beauty products will appreciate.

Lavera Wild Rose Body Care Collection Review

Since it’s Valentine’s Day – what better day to talk about beautifully rose scented green beauty products than – today?

Lavera, a German naturkosmetik beauty brand, is known for its affordable and wide-ranging beauty products; many many moons ago, it was one of the first green beauty brands I started using once I had switched to natural beauty products. This wild rose body care collection has been around for many years, and I’ve been using these products for as equally long, so all the products mentioned in this review have been tried, tested and used many times over. All of these products are very cost-effective, and just because they are affordable and come in generous amounts, it does not make them any less great. All of these products – body wash, body lotion, roll on deodorant and spray deodorant – have a beautiful rose scent and I am certain, especially if you are a fellow rose scent lover or even  – connoisseur – that you will like, very much so, at least one of the products from this rose collection, if not all of them. I keep coming back to all these products, again and again, and am certain I will continue to. For many years, I was also using the Lavera Rose Perfume, unfortunately, Lavera had discontinued it about 4 or 5 years ago; I really wish they would re-think and re-launch it again.

Lavera Pampering Body Wash

Lavera Rose Body Wash and Body Lotion

A gel to cream to a mild foam – this is how the Lavera Pampering Body Wash gently yet thoroughly washes; while it does contain, of course, several foaming agents, such as Sodium Coco-Sulfate and Glyceryl oleate, and two mild surfactants Lauryl Glucoside and Coco-glucoside, this body wash is still mild and nonirritating to the skin. The lather is minimal, as this is more of a creamy body wash and as such, the results on the skin correspond with it: soft yet cleansed skin. The signature rose scent of the Lavera Wild Rose body collection is there, just not as strong or as long lasting as it is in other products, yet still lovely. The body wash contains Aloe vera, which hydrates and rejuvenates the skin, and Rosehip Seed Oil, rich in vitamin C, which restores and rejuvenates tired and stressed skin. It also contains Rosa Damascena Flower Water; the source of the scent are essential oils.

Lavera Pampering Body Wash comes in a 200ml tube, and it costs £6,95. While generous amount, this is, after all, a body wash, so it tends to be used up pretty quickly; I usually use it up in a month or two, and I am not all that modest with it.

Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Sodium Coco-Sulfate, Lauryl Glucoside, Glycerin, Betaine, Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice*, Rosa Canina Fruit Extract*, Rosa Damascena Flower Water*, Sea Salt (Maris Sal), Glyceryl Oleate, Coco-Glucoside, Alcohol*, Fragrance (Parfum)**, Citronellol**, Geraniol**, Linalool**, Citral**, Limonene** * Ingredients from Certified Organic Agriculture ** Natural Essential Oils *** Fair Trade

Lavera Pampering Body Lotion

Lavera Rose Body Lotion

This is a rich and nourishing body lotion, with a delicious rose scent. Excellent, especially, for a colder days, when the skin needs an extra pampering. The texture is quite thick, at least for a body lotion, so it takes a good minute or two to properly absorb into the skin, therefore the best time to apply Lavera Pampering Body Lotion is right after a shower or bath, when the skin is most susceptible to absorb nutrient body lotion. Once the body lotion is absorbed, the skin is immediately looking fresh and a bit glowy – but not in a greasy kind of way: the skin feels soft and velvety. The beautiful rose scent lasts for about 4 hours. Whether you apply this body lotion in the morning or in the evening, your skin will be nourished throughout the day or night. You can also use this body lotion as a hand cream – believe me, not just because of the the beautiful rose scent, but the way it will make your hands feel, too. The body lotion contains an-always-welcomed ingredient for body lotions/butters: the nourishing shea butter, which is rich with Vitamins E and renowned for its skin softening and moisture retaining ability. Rosehip Seed Oil, rich in vitamin C, restores and rejuvenates tired and stressed skin. Sunflower oil spreads easily and is  quickly absorbed. It is an antioxidant and a moisturizer and it promotes skin regeneration.

Lavera Pampering Body Lotion comes in a 200ml tube and costs only £8,95 (though you can get it for even less); you’ll get a generous amount of a really nourishing and deliciously smelling body lotion for a reasonable and affordable price. No wonder I’ve been using this body lotion for so many years.

Lavera Pampering Deodorant Roll On

Lavera Rose Deodorant Spray and Roll On Deodorant

This roll on deodorant is of a thin creamy texture; its absorption is almost immediate and it does not leave any stains. It’s very gentle on the skin and in all the many years I’ve been using it, I haven’t had any adverse reactions (but do keep in mind, as with all the deodorants – do not apply them on a freshly shaven armpits). The scent is also beautiful and non-overpowering, and lasts for quite some time, while the odor is kept away for much longer; do keep in mind, that this is a deodorant, a natural one, so you shouldn’t expect it will completely and totally prevent perspiration.

Lavera Pampering Deodorant Roll On contains Aloe vera, which hydrates and rejuvenates the skin, and Rosehip Seed Oil, rich in vitamin C, which restores and rejuvenates tired and stressed skin. The Calendula Flower Extract softens, soothes as well as heals the skin; it has antibacterial anti-inflammatory properties and is great for sensitive skin. Jojoba Oil soothes the skin and promotes collagen production. Fennel Fruit Extract  has anti-inflammatory, detoxifying and antimicrobial properties. Witch Hazel has astringent, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and wound healing properties. Zinc Ricinoleate is the zinc salt of ricinoleic acid, a major fatty acid found in castor oil. It is used in many deodorants as an odor-adsorbing agent.

Lavera Pampering Deodorant Roll On costs £7,95 for a 50ml; another reasonably priced Lavera product. With a daily use (and sometimes, especially during hotter days), I’ve found it lasts for at least 2 months.

Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice*, Cellulose, Zinc Oxide, Glycerin, Glyceryl Caprylate, Xanthan Gum, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Zinc Ricinoleate, Hydrogenated Palm Glycerides, Rosa Centifolia Flower Extract*, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract*, Rosa Canina Fruit Extract*, Foeniculum Vulgare (Fennel) Fruit Extract*, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract*, Gossypium Herbaceum (Cotton) Extract, Hydrated Silica, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Stearic Acid, Fragrance (Parfum)**, Citronellol**, Geraniol**, Linalool**, Citral**, Limonene**, Farnesol**, Benzyl Alcohol** * Ingredients from Certified Organic Agriculture ** Natural Essential Oils *** Fair Trade

Lavera Pampering Deodorant Spray

Last but not least, the rose scented deodorant spray. Since this is an alcohol based deodorant spray, with alcohol even being listed as the first ingredient and thus present in greatest amount, some may opt out from using this one; and I understand it, since alcohol is drying to the skin. Many years ago, before I ordered the first bottle, I had the very same skepticism about it, but eventually, after enjoying the roll on deodorant, bought it anyway, and haven’t regretted it since, for a simple reason: my skin did not object it. True, everyone’s skin is different, but I would like to strongly point out that my journey into green beauty started precisely with deodorants: I’ve had to have a surgery due to conventional and very toxic deodorants/antiperspirants. I avoid alcohol in skincare products as much as possible as they are drying and cause the skin to be even more oily; the alcohol in this deodorant does not dry my skin nor makes it irritated; the Camellia Oleifera Leaf Extract keeps the skin hydrated and supple. The Lavera Pampering Deodorant Spray also contains, of course, Rosa Damascena hydrolate and the source of its beautiful scent are essential oils.

Immediately upon spraying, there is a quite a strong scent of alcohol, which vaporizes in less than a minute, and then the beautiful rose scent prevails and lasts for about 5 hours, with every hour less, of course. The odor is contained and so is quite a lot of perspiration, but not completely, nor should it be expected. Due to Camellia extract and essential oils, the deodorant spray feels smooth on the skin. I suggest spraying the deodorant from a distance as opposed to very close to the armpits: this way, the spray is less concentrated on a smaller part of the skin and it dries even faster; should you wish, you can spray another layer, once the spray is dried. The deodorant spray does not leave stains.

The Lavera Pampering Deodorant Spray comes in a 75ml bottle and costs £10,95; again, making another Lavera product affordable. With a daily use, you can spread it to up to 4 months, I usually get 3 months out of it as I like to sometimes spray it on my hands as well. What can I say, I really like the scent.

Ingredients: Alcohol*, Water (Aqua), Triethyl Citrate, Rosa Damascena Flower Water*, Camellia Oleifera Leaf Extract*, Sodium Caproyl/Lauroyl Lactylate, Fragrance (Parfum)**, Citronellol**, Geraniol**, Limonene**, Linalool**, Citral**, Farnesol**, Benzyl Benzoate** * Ingredients from Certified Organic Agriculture ** Natural Essential Oils *** Fair Trade

My final word?

Lavera Wild Rose Body Care Collection Review

I’ve been using all these Lavera products for many many years, and I still enjoy them a lot; I am certain I will keep buying them for years to come. What’s not to like? They are reasonably priced, affordable yet this does not compromise their quality. The scent of all of them is beautiful and its source is natural: essential oils, flower waters – all make for a fabulous smelling scent of roses. The Lavera Pampering Body Wash is creamy and gentle, the Lavera Pampering Body Lotion is rich, leaving the skin nourished and soft. The Lavera Pampering Deodorant Roll On is a creamy and gentle deodorant, with a beautiful rose scent, and so is the  Lavera Pampering Deodorant Spray – with a stronger and longer lasting scent – and despite being an alcohol based deodorant does not irritate the skin. Each of the products is affordable and the whole collection I presented here, 4 products, cost £35. So, what’s not to like?

No doubt, the pampering sessions I’ve been having for years with these Lavera beautifully smelling goodies will continue for years to come.
