We’re nearing the end of Summer… or is it already the end of Summer? Just a few days ago it was hot and very Summer-like, then a day or two of rain came and now it’s colder and that feeling of Summer is gone. So before the August says goodbye, I’ll tackle my first impressions of this month’s Love Lula Beauty Box; despite testing these products for over a week, these are still my first impressions, and not a full review (aside from one product I’ve been using for over a year). This month’s Love Lula Beauty Box contains two full sized products, 3 travel sized products and one sample sachet – a total worth of the beauty box is £55.

So, what’s in this month’s Love Lula Beauty Box?

Love Lula Beauty Box August 2018

Madara AHA Peel Mask (60ml/£24,00). I’ve got this AHA peel mask back in April in my Love Lula Beauty Box, and was about to squeeze the remaining of the mask from a tube when a new one came with this month’s Beauty Box. I was planning on posting a full review either way this Autumn, but it wouldn’t hurt if I write a few lines here, would it? Those, who want to use some type of acids – be it AHA or BHA (I know, I know – I promised a full article on these acids many moons ago…), but maybe find their skin too sensitive – this AHA peel mask just might be gentle enough for you, yet this effective. It gives an almost instant boost to your skin in a form of clearer, more radiant skin. I leave it on for about 10 – 20 minutes, depending on how my skin is “feeling” and what it needs, then thoroughly rinse it off with cold(er) water and – of course, spray it with a hydrolate, followed by a hydrating mask (Madara SOS mask works nicely with her AHA peel mask). The fruit acids and Vitamin C in this AHA peel mask exfoliate the skin by way of chemical peel, unclog pores and stimulate skin’s regeneration. As always – be careful when using AHA and BHA acids – they are serious business and it takes a while to muster their use; I’ve been using AHA and BHA for many years now, and they are great for skin – just – again, they should not be taken lightly. I’ll post a full review of this great Madara AHA Peel Mask soon, as well as a detailed article on AHA and BHA; for now, all I can say is I recommend this peel mask a lot!

Pure & Light Revitalising Facial Exfoliation (15ml – travel size; 50ml/£28,00). While it says it’s an exfoliator, this is, above all, a cream cleanser, with a few exfoliating particles here and there, making it suitable for daily use and for any skin type. The cleanser is a non-foaming, which is a plus for me. Light and creamy, it gently cleanses the skin, removing makeup without problems and with little effort. There’s quite a lot of ingredients in its formulation, especially for a cleanser, among them Rosa Damascena and Immortelle (though very little amount), from antioxidants to ingredients with hydrating properties. As I am very fond of oily and creamy cleansers, and based on what I’ve seen so far from this cleanser, I’ve put it on my wish list – that’s one of the great things about Love Lula Beauty Box – you get to try products you otherwise might miss.

Gallinee Hydrating Face Cream and Hand Cream (travel sizes; 30ml/£34,90; 50ml/£11,90). This is my first time trying anything from this French brand. The face cream is very light and quickly absorbing; it does indeed have a faint scent of raw bread or something like this. The hand cream is also light, moisturising and quickly absorbing; the scent is nice, but not natural. The biggest issue I have with these two products is the fact they contain quite a lot of synthetic ingredients, with two being the most offensive: avobenzone and octisalate, synthetic UV absorbers and filters, the ingredients, which I avoid immensely. These two products are therefore a pass for me.

♠ Bowe Organics Lash Oil (10ml/£19,99). When I saw the bottle, I thought oh, look how cute it is. Lash oil, 10ml bottle. Then went and looked up the price. I had to do a double take: 10ml of rosehip oil, castor oil, jojoba oil and Vitamin E – £19,99?! I’m sorry, but this product makes me feel like it wants to dupe me. It seems like someone wanted to jump on a green beauty wagon not too long ago and thought, especially with some of the insane prices lately, to make some serious buck – selling a 10ml of very affordable (if I say cheap I wouldn’t want to diminish the effect these oils have on the skin, or in this case – lashes and brows – but the fact that these oils are very affordable) 3 vegetable oils and Vitamin E? Let me quickly run down the prices (not wholesale prices, which the brands pay for) of these ingredients: £13 for 100ml rosehip oil, £7 for 100ml of jojoba oil, £2 for 100ml castor oil and £6,5 for 250ml Vitamin E. 550ml of these ingredients for £28,5! I’m not one of those bloggers, who will gush about such products as being luxurious BECAUSE of the price tag and telling their readers how such products are a must; heck, some don’t even know themselves, but if it’s a hiked price, it must be luxurious, right?! It’s a rip off, to put it as honestly and bluntly as I can. It makes me furious, this attempt at making a quick and big buck at the expense of green beauty craze and ignorance (and I don’t mean this in a negative way) of potential customers. And not just that – there are brands, who offer truly luxurious products, with years of studying behind it and still price their products reasonably, and in most cases, don’t have a profit of some £1000 for £28 worth of ingredients. Gosh, I’ve been buying ingredients for nearly 20 years now and mixing up my own products; I know the prices! What’s the story behind it? It took 10 years to come with this formulation? The oil doesn’t even come with a mascara wand for easier application, not that it would make any difference price-wise. It doesn’t matter that castor oil, indeed, is a great ingredient for healthy lashes and brows – it does not matter, when 10ml of these 4 ingredients are packed in an somewhat expensive 10ml bottle (but not £20 expensive!) and sold for freaking £20! Oh, here’s a 5ml bottle of quality Oils of Heaven rosehip oil – for £2,50! Phew!

Kimberly Sawyer Ultra Light Facial Moisturiser SPF30 (sample; £26,50/120ml). I’ve tried a few samples of this products in the past, and made a note to put it on my wish list – I just haven’t gotten to the full (and it’s a full, alright!) size. Light, quickly absorbing moisturizer with a SPF30, which is based on natural ingredients.

Love Lula Beauty Box August 2018

This month’s Love Lula Beauty Box was a bit of a roller-coaster, wasn’t it? A full sized Madara AHA peel mask, which I recommend a lot, a Pure & Light cream cleanser, which I have bumped up on my wishlist when it comes to cleansers and will have to get it as soon as possible, as it’s really great, two travel sized Gallinee products, which are, unfortunately a pass for me given they contain ingredients I avoid and – one superbly overpriced 10ml product, which pissed me off. All in all, this month’s Love Lula Beauty Box is worth £55, but you can get it for as low as £13,95 (or £17,5 for international customers), plus you get a 20% discount on all the brands featured in a current Beauty Box.

How did you like this month’s Love Lula Beauty Box?

A long over due and many times requested – my natural makeup routine – the Summer edition. I’ll do my best to turn this into a regular series, as well as with my skincare routine; however, it will be limited to monthly editions, as opposed to daily and mindless and useless, if you don’t mind me saying that, morning and evening routines.

During the hot Summer days, especially with heatwaves, I prefer  – and crave – simple and light beauty routines – whether skincare or makeup. My makeup routine is quite minimal and natural looking as it is; the first thing that changes with my Summer makeup routine is foundation – from liquid foundation and BB creams to loose mineral foundation, or no foundation at all: just a dab of concealer and some translucent powder. I’ll get into more details about my Summer makeup routine below.

My Summer Green Beauty Makeup Routine

The rose hydrolate is a must all year around, morning and evening and in between. First, I spray a generous amount of (just taken out of a fridge) Alteya rose hydrolate (full review here) and wait for the skin to drink it up (I do use other hydrolates as well as toners; Andalou Naturals Rose Toner being one of my favorites). Then I follow with a light moisturizer or – preferably, a light non-oil based serum; this Summer, I’ve been using Madara Cellular Repair Serum: it’s a light, quickly absorbable serum, which works perfectly as a primer, while also keeping the skin hydrated. From time to time, I also use a light eye cream as well, especially for the reason that loose mineral powder tend to get my skin under the eyes dry after a while. The eye creams I’ve been using this Summer is Madara Anti-Fatique Eye Rescue Cream and Madara Eye Contour Cream (full review here); though the yes contour cream is richer and less light. Both the Madara serum and eye cream will get a full review soon.

After the serum and eye cream are absorbed, I follow with concealing any redness or other imperfections. For concealing, I use two approaches. I use a dab of RMS Beauty “Un” Cover-Up Concealer (full review here) on parts of the skin, which need some concealing, as well as around the nose; given the RMS Beauty Concealer is creamy, I use it only when it’s not incredibly hot. When it is, I use a lighter shade of the actual loose mineral powder, applied with an eye kabuki, on the parts which need extra attention, including using a lighter shade of the loose mineral powder under the eyes.

I then follow, using a large kabuki brush, with a loose mineral powder application. This Summer, I’ve been using an excellent Inika Loose Mineral Foundation: it’s non-drying, with a natural finish look, strong and easily buildable coverage. Its staying power is also remarkable, even on the hottest and sweaty days. You can read my full review of Inika Loose Mineral Foundation here.

My Summer Green Beauty Makeup Routine

After mineral loose foundation, I sometimes apply eye shadow. As I’ve been going for that fresh and bright look this Summer (think gold & bright pink or peachy pink), I apply PHB Ethical Beauty eye shadow (read my first impressions of this eye shadow here) in a bright and shinny gold color – either all over the lid, or just in the corner of the eyes. I then follow with Inika Gold Oyster eye shadow duo: I either blend out the lighter one and use the darker one as an eyeliner (as close to eyelashes as possible), then blend out all of them again, or just use the darker one as an eyeliner (full review of the Inika Eyeshadow Duo here). From time to time, I also apply one coat of Pacifica Aquarian Gaze Water Resistant Mascara (full review here), which, despite being waterproof, sometimes feels too heavy in hot weather.

With loose mineral powder, I prefer using mineral or pressed blushes, though I’ve been using the Inika Cream Illuminisor (full review here) as blush and highlighter all-in-one to apply it on the apples of my cheeks as well as on the cheek bone; it gives a subtle yet sophisticated dewy look with a pretty natural pink blushing finish. Alternatively or combined with Inika highlighter, I use Alverde cream blush in a pretty pink.

My Summer Green Beauty Makeup Routine

The final touch for my Summer makeup routine – lipstick. Not too long ago, Ere Perez has launched their olive oil lipsticks, and as much as I don’t want to hoard tons of lipsticks, their colors had me a bit, quite a lot, mesmerized, and I gave in and got three (I’m trying my best to contain myself from getting a few other colors as well; though it’s hard given the beautiful colors and great formulation); one of the colors I got is for all seasons, while the other two – I immediately saw them as the perfect Summer shades – pink, lively, happy: the Ere Perez in Picnic – a gentle, yet bright peachy color and the Ere Perez in Surprise – bright pink with a violet undertones, perfect for a minimal Summer look, with a bright white dress and a popping bright lipstick at the center of attention. But since I still prefer a bit more subtle look, and given these lipsticks are very pigmented and rich in color, I use a lipbalm under the lipstick. I’ll review these Ere Perez lipstick beauties soon, so make sure you check back!

My Summer Green Beauty Makeup Routine

As for the quicker Summer makeup routine, when I’m feeling even less products on my skin as above, I use only a few makeup products. A tad, a dab here and there of RMS Beauty Concealer, followed by Ere Perez Translucent Corn Perfecting Powder (review soon!), which I apply with the Real Techniques Mini Multitask Brush, followed by a dab of Inika highlighter and Ere Perez lipstick – either Surprise or Picnic – depending on the mood.

Of course, needless to say, having eye brows nicely put together, is a must. That goes without a saying, does it?

So my Summer makeup routine is all about being light and bright: only a few products in order to achieve a natural bright Summer look; color combination is about bright gold and bright pink – peachy or richer bright pink – this color combination makes for a light and contrasted look with light Summer clothing, especially white colored clothing.

* * *

How does your Summer makeup routine look like? Which colors you most often wear during Summer? Any special makeup products? Let me know, I’d like to hear it!

Inika Loose Mineral Foundation is a finely milled foundation, providing nearly full coverage with a natural looking finish.

Inika Loose Mineral Foundation Review

I’m still of an opinion that loose mineral foundation is one of the best things that could happen in beauty industry. I’ve started using mineral foundation about 15 years ago, and I’m still a big fan of it: when formulated correctly, mineral foundation contains only a few ingredients, usually fine milled minerals, mixed properly to achieve a good to great buildable coverage, while also leaving the skin with a natural, non-cakey finish. The minerals also provide a natural and, in most cases, quite satisfying SPF. The fact that mineral foundation is also applied quickly – what’s not to like about it?

During the Summer, especially when there’s a heatwave – (loose) mineral foundation is a must for me; all liquid foundations, BB creams – they all make room for mineral foundation: the less products and the lighter products I have on my skin, the better.

Inika Loose Mineral Foundation is – to make a short and precise statement based on having used mineral foundation for as many years as I have and as many different ones- an excellent mineral foundation. A few months ago I decided, with Summer approaching, to get Inika Loose Mineral Foundation and have been using it since.

Inika Loose Mineral Foundation Review

There’s 8 different shades available; if I recall the many occasions in the past year or so, where I missed the mark when it comes to picking the right shade (for example, one of many occasions, where I picked the wrong color first is also Inika BB cream – the review is coming soon), I was glad that Inika offers Trial Kits, which each include 2 different shades (along with primer and foundation) of loose mineral powder.

Inika Loose Mineral Foundation Review

If I went by the photos only, I am sure I would have first picked the two shades from the light trial kit, only to find the right color for me in the light/medium trial kit, so I warmly advise you to take advantage of these available trial kits in order to find the right color.

Inika Loose Mineral Foundation Review

I know it would be more handy to just apply the mineral foundation and be done, but for me, even though I have combination/oily skin, I’ve always used some type of primer before applying the mineral foundation: either a light moisturizer or a light serum; this Summer, I’ve been using the Madara Cellular Repair Serum (review soon!), since it’s light and quickly absorbing. Whenever I’ve tried using the mineral foundation alone, the finish wasn’t up to my taste: the foundation didn’t spread the way I want it and there were dry and cakey patches (this happens with basically all mineral foundations I’ve used so far). Alternatively, you can also mix the loose mineral foundation with a primer, moisturizer or light serum – and get the coverage based on your current wishes: the more foundation you mix with your primer, the stronger the coverage.

Inika Loose Mineral Foundation Review

After I apply the primer, I first use a small kabuki brush to apply the loose mineral foundation around my nose and eyes (where sometimes, I use the lightest shade from the Trial Kit); if there’s something that needs an extra coverage, I first apply the foundation with eye kabuki. For a full face, I then use a regular-sized kabuki brush: depending on the coverage you wish to achieve, you can swirl the kabuki brush in loose mineral foundation and apply it in a circular and pressing motion; for less coverage, apply your loose mineral foundation using a lighter brush strokes (similar to applying liquid foundation or blush), from your nose outward to your ears. If you decide to mix the foundation with a primer, I’d suggest using your regular liquid foundation brush.

Inika Loose Mineral Foundation Review

The Inika Mineral Loose Foundation is easy and quick to apply, the finish is even, almost matte but not cakey; in fact, it gives a bit of soft and minimal dewy finish. The coverage – buildable and if you want a strong coverage – Inika foundation will deliver. This mineral foundation stays on all day; it doesn’t slide, there’s minimal transfer and to top it all off – it even defies sweat as well as my regular rose hydrolate spraying refreshments. The only minor issue I have with (any) mineral foundation is that after a couple of hours, it dries under my eyes; the best way to somewhat circumvent this issue is to apply a more generous amount if eye cream (this one or this one).

Inika Loose Mineral Foundation Review

The Inika Loose Mineral Foundation also provides a very good and natural sun protection with SPF25 (and since the foundation doesn’t easily transfer, you don’t have to worry about being SPF “naked” soon after application), whose source are natural minerals as opposed to toxic synthetic sun screens.

* * *

So, how about the ingredients? There’s only a few minerals in this loose foundation.

Ingredients: Mica (CI 77019); Zinc Oxide (CI 77947); Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891); Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI77499); Ultramarines (CI 77007).

Mica, Iron Oxides and Ultramarines are natural colorants, while Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide work as a natural SPF. Indeed, a minimalist ingredients formulation.

Potentially problematic ingredients? None.

* * *

My final word?

Inika Loose Mineral Foundation Review

If you’re looking for a high quality, all natural, with a minimalist ingredients formulation, great coverage but a natural looking finish loose mineral foundation – you’ll find it in Inika Loose Mineral Foundation. Easily appliable and spread, it can be used as a full coverage foundation or for a minimum coverage applied over concealer. I do suggest using some type of a primer either before applying the foundation, or mixing it with a primer. The Inika Loose Mineral Foundation is made for any skin type, including sensitive – it won’t irritate your skin or eyes.

Inika Loose Mineral Foundation Review

Its staying power is strong: minimal transfer, does not slide off and works incredibly well during hot days; not only does it stay put when you’re sweating, it also feels very light on the skin – just minding its own business and delivering the promise of a great mineral loose foundation. It also cooperates nicely when applying a blush and/highlighter, even if they’re creamy (though in most cases, I prefer using a mineral blush over mineral foundation).

Price? £30 for 8g jar; might not be the most affordable mineral foundation out there, but for such a high quality mineral foundation of a generous 8g, which lasts for quite some time – I can’t say anything else but: I highly recommend it.
