Hello greenies! Busy week behind me – glad it’s weekend! In the midst of it all, I had to take advantage of this beautiful, warm and sunny weather. Even though there’s still two months left before Spring, it sure feels like Spring is shyly peeking out already. Yesterday was such a beautiful day, 15 degrees, sun – you know I had to drop everything and go recharging to the forest.

I’ve been testing a few of the products lately – one facial oil I received many months ago, but since I still had other facial products I had to use before opening a new one, it’s taken so long. I have only one face and in order to properly test a product, it takes some time, along with no wanting to have all the products opened and used only partially – what a waste would that be, right? I’m glad my readers appreciate and value my approach to testing and reviewing the products – I share your opinion: had I posted reviews of 10 facial oils every month, you’d be right as far as questioning just how it is possible to thoroughly test and review so many products in such a short amount of time – would such a review be honest, adequate and helpful to you, my lovely readers? It wouldn’t. And to think I’d have so many products opened at once, only to push them aside to test a new batch of products – so not green, wouldn’t you agree?

It’s time to start the weekend, right? And along the weekend, in case you’re re-stocking on some green beauty products, I got you – below are this week’s discounts for you to save a bit and maybe even get a free gift.

Hello greenies! How’s everyone been? It’s been sunny and quite warm, for this time of the year, in my neck of the woods. Had a chance to escape to the woods twice this week; I think I can already smell Spring, which I don’t mind, but then again – who wants to wake up in a snowy and cold morning sometime in March, right?

In case you’ve missed – there were two new posts on my blog this week: a reviews of Madara shampoo and conditioner and my first impressions on this month Love Lula Beauty Box. While the beauty box is already sold out, Love Lula has another super affordable beauty box for you – all the details and many more winter sales and free gifts are waiting for you below to check them out – in case you need to re-stock your cosmetic shelf and not pay the full price along it.

Jan 182018

First month of the 2018 and first Love Lula Beauty Box of the year. The January Beauty Box contains 2 full body care products and 2 skincare products. Maybe this month’s beauty box may not be as exciting as previous ones – one product was present in one of the previous boxes – the Madara cream and there may be a bit not enough variety as far as the brands go – nonetheless – since Madara night cream is a really good product and the other 3 are full sized one – all of that at an affordable cost while the value of this month’s Beauty Box is a whooping £71 – it’s all good! One of the products from this month’s Beauty Box has already received my full review, the rest will in the near future; for now, below are my first impressions.

So what’s in January’s Love Lula Beauty Box?

Love Lula Beauty Box January 2018

Madara Total Renewal Night Cream (20ml/£20). I received this cream in my December 2016 Love Lula Beauty Box and wrote a full review nearly a year ago. In short: works hard to replenish, rejuvenate and tighten the skin. The finish of this night cream is a treat for the skin – smooth, silky and velvety – and I don’t mean just when you apply the cream, but the next day as well. It gives the skin a healthy and youthful look. Since it’s so smooth and it absorbs so quickly, I’ve been using it as a foundation primer as well – what can I say – the cream really is versatile and much liked by my skin. This night cream is perfect for winter days, which are harsher for the skin – but – given its lightness and fast absorption – I know I’d use it during summer as well – it’s that versatile, indeed!

PHB Ethical Beauty Brightening Eye Gel (15ml/£16,95). A citrusy gel, which absorbs fast and leaves the skin smooth. I’ve applied it under my makeup (specifically, RMS concealer) and hours later, it hasn’t moved. It feels very light on the skin and gives off that refreshing feeling. I think this is a great product for Summer. Full review soon!

MOA Green Bath Potion (100ml/£27,50). It seems to me that the brand MOA has been around for ages! In this month’s Love Lula Beauty Box, we get a full sized bath oil from MOA. The green glass bottle comes in a nicely, vintage-apothecary package. It’s like forest in a bottle: a herbal blend of peppermint, detoxifying fennel, calming, relaxing fir needle and sweet birch – perfect for winter baths to detox, calm, relax and ease achy muscles. Given its generous size, I am sure it will last for quite some time – I’ll let you know more soon!

Laidbare Hair Today Gone Tomorrow (125ml/£6,99). Hmmm… can’t say that a product, which would minimize body hair would be on my wishlist, but this product is allegedly also targeting irritation and bumps after shaving. I’ll have to thoroughly test this product in order to give you a more detailed opinion; if this cream truly lessens irritation and inflammation after shaving, then – kudos!

* * *

How did you like your Love Lula Beauty Box this month? Oh, you haven’t subscribed to it yet? Well, then you can do so here – it’s quite amazing how affordable this beauty box is! And – you also get 20% off on all the brands featured in the Beauty Box!

Madara shampoo and conditioner are light-weight, yet nourishing hair care products, working on your hair to make it healthy and shiny.

Madara Shampoo and Conditioner Review

Hair care products, specifically shampoo and conditioner, are one of those beauty products I use a lot. Many years ago – in fact, nearly two decades ago, when I switched to natural beauty, switching to natural hair care products was a must; conventional hair care products, especially with their toxic and irritating ingredients, among which the biggest offenders are sulphates, were not irritating to my scalp only, but also causing acne along my hairline, while also making my hair dull, brittle. So it goes without a saying that natural hair care products are a must for me.

Madara offers, along with many great skin care products, quality hair care products as well. Today, I’ll review two Madara’s shampoos and conditioners – one line is dedicated to make your hair glossy and vibrant, the other to make you hair nourished and repaired: Madara Nourish and Repair Shampoo and Conditioner and Madara Gloss and Vibrancy Shampoo and Conditioner.

* * *

Madara Gloss and Vibrancy Shampoo and Conditioner

Madara Gloss and Vibrancy Shampoo and Conditioner

The strongest point of Madara Gloss and Vibrancy Shampoo and Conditioner is their deliverance of silky, soft and shiny hair. The Madara Gloss and Vibrancy Shampoo is lightweight, cleanses the hair thoroughly, without being harsh on either the hair or the scalp. Shampoo’s lather is rich, and so is the scent of this shampoo – in short, I could describe it as typical Madara scent – herbal. The Madara Gloss and Vibrancy Conditioner works well with its shampoo teammate – little goes a long way, and even though the shampoo itself makes the hair soft and manageable on its own already, the conditioner only ads to the hair being easily detangled. The scent of the conditioner is basically the same as the one of shampoo – herbal, natural and lasts for about 2 days. The end result of this duo is shiny and soft hair, with an added bonus – vibrancy, indeed. Even though this duo is intented for normal hair and mine fall somewhere in between oily and normal, the Madara Gloss and Vibrancy Shampoo and Conditioner do not weight my hair nor leave it greasy. I would recommend this shampoo and conditioner for any type of hair.

How about the ingredients?

Madara Gloss and Vibrancy Shampoo: Aqua, Sodium coco-sulfate, Coco-glucoside, Rosa Damascena (Rose) Floral water, Cocamidpropyl Betaine, Glyceryl Oleate, Betaine, Betula Alba (Birch) Leaf Extract, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Fruit Extract, Benzyl Alcohol, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Chloride, Citric Acid, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Sodium benzoate, Brasissyl Isoleucinate Esylate, Brassica Alcohol, Fragrance, Limonene, Linalool, Geraniol, Farnesol, Citronellol, Citral

Madara Gloss and Vibrancy Conditioner: Aqua, Cetearyl Alcohol, Distearylethyl Dimonium Chloride, Betaine, Glycerin, D-panthenol (Provitamin B5), Betula Alba (Birch) Leaf Extract, Lactic Acid, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Fruit Extract, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, CI 77019 (Mica), CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), Benzyl Alcohol, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Aroma, Limonene

The shampoo does contain a number of foaming agents, such as Sodium coco-sulfate, Coco-glucoside, Glyceryl oleate and Cocamidpropyl Betaine, but neither fall under the toxic sulphates such as SLS/SLES; the Cocamidpropyl Betaine, while in skin care products is not welcomed by my skin, in hair care products it doesn’t pose such a problem. Coco-glucoside is one of those foaming agents, which are mild and to which my skin responds positively. But it has to be noted that these foaming agents are not natural ingredients, and could therefore be potential irritants.

Betaine hydrates and gives a silky and smooth feel to skin.  Betaine is a a potent humectant and anti-irritant. Birch Leaf Extract leaf  has astringent, anti-inflammatory and skin-soothing properties. It also has skin healing and purifying properties. Due to Vitamins A, B1, B2, C and E, it’s also a potent antioxidant. Cranberry extract is a very potent antioxidant, with high content of Vitamin E, as well as phytosterols, which prevent photo damage caused by sun.

Brasissyl Isoleucinate Esylate and Brassica Alcohol are emulsifiers, derived by process of fermentation, which give that silky feel to the hair. Distearylethyl Dimonium Chloride is an antistatic agent; it leaves the hair shiny, detangled and discharged of static electricity. It is COSMOS certified.

As both, the shampoo and conditioner are water based, the preservatives are a must (Benzyl Alcohol, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium benzoate).

Madara Nourish and Repair Shampoo and Conditioner

Madara Nourish and Repair Shampoo and Conditioner

If the Madara Gloss and Vibrancy Shampoo and Conditioner are light hair products, working to keep the hair shinny, the Madara Nourish and Repair Shampoo and Conditioner are a bit more on a richer consistency and nourishing side, but still – neither leave the hair heavy or greasy, though I have to point out this duo is made for normal hair and may be a bit too rich for very oily hair, especially if you were to plan to use them daily. I’ve been using the Madara Nourish and Repair Shampoo and Conditioner in between using other, lighter and for daily use shampoos and conditioners – Madara Gloss and Vibrancy Shampoo and Conditioner included, of course. I use the shampoo, but especially the Madara Nourish and Repair Conditioner more as a treatment, when my hair needs additional nourishment – I even use the conditioner as a mask and leave it on for good 20 min or so, when the time permits. This duo, too leaves the hair soft, easily detangled and nourished. The scent, I believe, is a little bit more pronounced, yet still very Madara-ish – herbal, though, for some strange reason, it also gives me a very distant citrusy scent. This duo is made for dry and damaged hair, so if your hair needs nourishment, but is oily, I would recommend using the conditioner away from the roots – otherwise, as a weekly treatment, both the Madara Nourish and Repair Shampoo and Conditioner work wonderfully on the hair – for tired, damaged hair – you could hardly ask for better hair products.

How about the ingredients?

Madara Nourish and Repair Shampoo: Aqua, Sodium coco-sulfate, Rosa Damascena (Rose) Flower Water, Coco glucoside, Cacamidopropyl Betaine, Glycerin, Glyceril Oleate, Betaine, Sodium Chloride, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Sodium Benzoate, Pyrus Cydonia (Quince) Fruit Extract, Urtica Dioica (Nettle) Leaf Extract, Benzyl Alcohol, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid, Brasissyl Isoleucinate Esylate, Brassica Alcohol, Fragrance, Limonene, Linalool, Geraniol, Citronellol, Citral

Madara Nourish and Repair Conditioner: Aqua, Distearylethyl Dimonium Chloride, Behentrimonium Chloride, Cetearyl Alcohol, D-panthenol (Provitamin B5), Glycerin, Betaine, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Lactic acid, Pyrus Cydonia (Quince) Fruit Extract, Urtica Dioica (Nettle) Leaf Extract, CI 77019 (Mica), CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), Benzyl Alcohol, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Aroma, Limonene

Quince seed extract has soothing and smoothing properties, while balancing moisture. Nettle leaf extract has a rich content  in minerals and vitamins; especially high content of soluble vitamin C. Avocado Oil is rich in vitamins (A, B1, B2, C, D, E, and Beta Carotene) and fatty acids; an emollient, which revitalizes the skin.

* * *

My final word?

Madara Shampoo and Conditioner Review

Madara Gloss and Vibrancy Shampoo and Conditioner and Madara Nourish and Repair Shampoo and Conditioner are all excellent hair care products – in fact, one of the best shampoos and conditioners I’ve ever tried, and I’ve tried tons!

Both shampoos are gentle on the hair, yet cleanse very well. Even after shampooing, the hair is soft and clean. Both conditioners, while one richer than the other, easily detangle the hair, leaving it vibrant, nourished and healthy. All of the products are easily washed off. While the nourishing duo may be a bit too rich for very oily hair, I could easily recommend all the products for any hair type – if your hair needs a pick me up treatment – dull, damaged, tangled, color-treated hair – for both the gloss and nourish duos of these Madara hair care products – your hair will be thankful.

Price? Well, when it comes to shampoos and toners, I’d always say they are expensive, given how much I use them. But, objectively, with the shampoos (250ml) and conditioners (200ml) being £13,50 – the cost falls somewhere in between – not really cheap, yet not extremely costly. The shampoo would get used up sooner, of course, as opposed to conditioner; my usage ratio is usually 3:1 for shampoo:conditioner. Good side of both shampoos is that they lather quite richly, so you do’t have to pour half a bottle for one shampooing. How long would the shampoo and conditioner last? Hard to say – as it depends on your hair’s structure and length.

Both these hair care duos from Madara come highly recommended by me and will find their way to my bathroom regularly.

* * *

Have you tried any of the Madara hair care products I’ve reviewed? How did you like them? How much are you willing to pay for a good natural shampoo and conditioner? Let me know!

Jan 122018

Hello greenies! Hope you had a nice, restful and joyous Christmas! Aside from a few occasions, where I was a bit all over the place, I had taken my time off. Whatever it was that needed to be done like a day before already, I said – it can wait. The Holidays were bittersweet – reminiscing of how it used to be and how it never will be, ever again, but at the same time, I know things will get better. After quite some time, I embarked on a mission to bake the walnut cake. Last year, it was too soon and too emotional. Baking this cake has had this long tradition in my family, and no one, in the whole world, could have made it better than she did. But I was her student, every time she’d bake it, until, when I was old enough, I was baking it myself, under her tutelage, of course. Now I don’t have her near me, to guide me, crack jokes about silly mistakes I had made. Nonetheless, I braved the situation and baked it myself this Christmas.

Another tradition in our family for the Christmas Holidays is watching, with obligatory walnut cake and tea, the New Year’s Vienna Philharmonic Concert. Last January the first was the first time in my life when I did not watch it; again, too emotional. The concert itself has always been an emotional experience for me and to compound it with her not being with me, watching it with me – I just couldn’t… But this year, this January the first, I was ready – with my walnut cake and tea, in my pajamas, under the blanket – letting the maestros take me away with their beautiful music: I was clapping, I was laughing, I was crying…

The whole Holidays were about classical and swing music, writing, painting – another thing, which has taken a backseat in the past two years or so. Slowly but surely, taking it one day at the time, I am getting back and moving forward – yet, the pain is still here; there are moments, when I don’t know whether I’ll make it or not, and then I muster all the strength and soldier on. If nothing else, I escape to my beloved forest, to get inspired and invigorated, knowing I am moving closer to where I’ve been planning for a long time.

As I mentioned in my last post for 2017, the plans for my little blog are plentiful for the year 2018! I’ve been working on y new design of my blog, scheduling the reviews – and there will be plenty – starting next week, you can expect a reviews of a facial oil/elixir and shampoo and conditioner. Many more various articles – I never run out of ideas! I’ve been receiving a lot of emails, asking me about my skincare and makeup routines – I’ll start posting about them this year – just don’t expect beauty routines seen on Instagram – daily mindless posts about 50 products, shuffled. I’ll post a few skincare/makeup routines every month, to share with you what I’m using and why.

Hopefully this year will be different for green beauty community – less mindless consumption and show-off of it and more mindful and green; less frauds, where dishonest and ingenuine “green” beauty bloggers dominate over experienced, honest green beauty bloggers. I’m seeing a lot of uproar in a non-green beauty community over these frauds, so it’s only a matter of time before Instagram puts a stop to this. Hopefully, some green beauty brands and stores will start treating green beauty bloggers with respect and realize that just because certain bloggers are willing to work for exposure, others are not. And hopefully, those, who are unable to come up with a single creative, innovative, original idea of their own, will stop stealing from everyone left and right.

The green beauty industry is evolving, there are so many great brands and great products being born every day – while some, admittedly, are only in it for a quick profit and would prefer to work any type of blogger, provided they have a large following (read the rant above about the frauds) as opposed to genuine green bloggers, and subsequently offer over-priced products, there are many genuine brands, which put a lot of thought into what they are doing and – why.

I’m looking forward to embracing what 2018 will bring. I started with a selection of best green beauty products of 2017 this week, and continue with my annual weekly discounts and free organic beauty gifts post – there’s a lot of post-Holiday sales going on and Love Lula has a free Beauty Box – again! All the details below!
