Oct 272017

Hello greenies! This week has been a mixture of being super busy and all about beautiful Autumn. As there was rain basically all previous weekend, I had to take advantage of beautiful sunny weather during the week, thus – no review this week.

I’ve been through so many changes in the past two years, and while I am still trying to find a spot where it feels somewhat normal, I am, most of all, trying to pace myself and tell myself that whatever I am doing, and as much as I am doing – it’s enough. In those moments, where I’m all tense, trying to do too many things at once, being at different places at the same time – I have to remind myself – I can’t – there’s only one me. I guess the most frustrating issue is having all these plans and trying to do them all at once – not possible. And if there’s a week where I don’t post a review – that’s OK, too. Because aside from what you, my lovely readers, see, there’s a lot of work going on behind the scenes with a blog.

Including emails with various businesses – such as emails from nearly scam web sides, which copy other bloggers and then contact us with such idiotic proposals, you have to wonder… It’s clear these sites have no intention on actually giving anything of a value, they’re just there to make green. For example, they generously offer a blogger to write an article of, say, 1500 words, provided the blogger has, say, 50,000 followers across social media (they have such a number on one of the social medias, and get, at most, one or two likes for their copied posts – tells you all you need to know how genuine those followers actually are, doesn’t it?) – and here comes the kicker – they fully expect you to write for them for – free. Because of that exposure currency, you see? Disgusting. Oh, and the pearls are businesses, which send you an email and never reply back once you take your time and give them a detailed response. How on Earth do these businesses even think a business works?! Needless to say, I’d never buy from such businesses and most certainly would never recommend them to anyone asking about them.

So, yeah, this week, it seems, aside from tons of free green beauty gifts and major discounts, is all about the newly launched RMS Beauty lipsticks – check below to find many links to the new lipsticks. And – Love Lula, again, has a FREE Beauty Box – yes, all the details and much more below!

Oct 202017

Hello greenies! Finally – it’s Friday! Boy, this week has been hectic as… heck! But, not to complain, as it’s been sunny and warm! If I were walking dressed like it’s Winter during September, I’ve been walking in short sleeves and flip flops this week. Had to take advantage of hoping in the forest during the week, though this means more work crammed in for other days, but nonetheless – what can compare to being in nature during such beautiful Autumn days?

I posted a first impressions post on this month’s Love Lula Beauty Box, and I’ve got more reviews for you in store next week. But for today, in case you’re doing some weekend green beauty shopping, check the great offers, including many free gifts with purchase below.

Oct 172017

Some say October is the most beautiful month, as mother nature really shows off her painting skills and gives us a variety of colors. Well, in October Love Lula’s Beauty Box, there’s a variety of body care and makeup products, along with skincare products – hydrolate and, in my opinion, a star carrier oil.

October Beauty Box is worth £40, however, with a subscription to Love Lula’s monthly Beauty Box, you can get it for the price of one product in the box – from £13,95 on. With the Beauty Box comes also a discount code of 20% on all the brands from the current Beauty Box as well.

As you know, this is only my first impressions review – a few of the products will receive a detailed review post later on.

So, what’s in October’s Love Lula Beauty Box?

Love Lula Beauty Box October 2017

Oils of Heaven Tamanu Oil (15ml) – I’ll star with a star carrier oil – the Tamanu oil. I’ve used Tamanu oil from many brands, as it’s been one of my favorite carrier oils for a long time. When I saw Love Lula’s own brand – Oils of Heaven – recently launched their Tamanu oil, I knew it would be included in one of the next beauty boxes – had it not been in this month’s beauty box, I would have to get it, as I suspected it would have been a top notch quality – and it is. This oil will get its own full review – but for now I’ll say this – Tamanu oil is one of the best carrier and facial oils out there – for any type of skin, but especially – if your skin is oily and acne prone – this is a great oil for you. Its absorption is “blink with an eye and you’ll miss it” and it leaves your skin so incredibly soft, almost matte and is a great oil to be used as a primer as well, since it just glides on the skin – actually, primer and serum all in once before applying makeup. One thing I have to point out in case you’re not familiar with Tamanu oil – its color may give you a pause as it’s not a typical golden-hued color, but, for the lack of a better word – looks like a spinach smoothie. Yes, the what seems oily golden part may separate from the green part of the oil, but that does not mean there’s something wrong with the oil – it’s just how Tamanu oil is. Another thing about Tamanu oil that I’ve always liked is its nutty scent, which resembles that of a shea butter, which I am also very fond of. You can be sure Oils of Heaven Tamanu oil will receive a full review soon, but if you can’t wait – go ahead and get it as it’s truly a remarkable oil. Oh, and you can get this Tamanu oil for FREE as well!

Balm Balm Frankincense Hydrolate (30ml) – great hydrolate – and you can never go wrong with a high quality hydrolate – to uplift your spirits and rejuvenate your skin – especially in the morning, before applying a moisturizer – the frankincense hydrolate softens the skin, while also having anti-inflammatory properties.

Greenfrog Body Wash in a Geranium and Peppermint scent (100ml) – not too long ago I reviewed another Greenfrog Body Wash and I like the scent of this one a lot more – of course – since it’s Geranium. Like the other body wash, this one does not dry the skin, but leaves it soft. I wish the scent would have lingered on for a bit longer, but such is the case when the source of scent is natural – essential oils. Have to try the rose and neroli body wash as well.

PHB Ethical Beauty Eyeshadow in Almond – while I’ve been iffy-iffy on PHB Beauty’s skincare, their makeup has been really good (expect a mascara and eye liner review soon). This eye shadow, even though its name is almond, is actually a goldish champagne. It’s quite pigmented, there’s barely any fall-out and it’s finely milled and soft. Great color to be used as a base eye shadow or just in the corner of the eyes, and, if you’re inclined, which I am not – bellow the eye brows. Given this is a natural eye shadow, a pressed mineral eye shadow, you should not expect it to last as long as conventional – it lasts for about 4-5 hours. Now I’m curious about a few other PHB Beauty eye shadows. Will do a full review in the near future.

PHB Ethical Beauty Eye Shadow Brush – not suitable for a precise application, but works OK as a blending brush. May be a bit too sturdy at the root and not rich enough as far as how many bristles there are, but still able to work with it nonetheless.

Glossworks Nails and Cuticles Oils (UK Beauty Box only) – I received this oil back in my August Beauty Box (when those in UK got Glossworks nail polishes, hmph). It contains beneficial ingredients to soften the cuticles, but as I mentioned back in August – a bit too pricey.

How did you like October’s Love Lula Beauty Box? Got introduced to any new favorite green beauty products?

Hello greenies! It’s been a wonderful sunny Autumn week and I cannot tell you how much I am waiting for the weekend to start and to spend as much time as I possibly can in nature – and boy – isn’t she a master painter with all these beautiful colors?

In case you’ve missed – I reviewed Laidbare Cleanser this week, and for the next week, I’ve got more reviews prepared for you, so make sure you check back.

It may be the green beauty stores are getting into a Holiday mood (already), but all the great offers this week are really something, I tell ya. First, I’d like to point out the insane FREE Fall Bundle worth $270 (all the details, of course, are waiting for you below), plus tons of other free organic beauty gifts, including the newly launched Tamanu Oil from Oils of Heaven – which I just received today in my October Love Lula Box; I’ll do my first impressions on the box in a few days, but right off the bat I wanna say – do yourself a favor and get this Tamanu oil – in fact, you can even get it for free – yes, all the details below! I’ve tried Tamanu oil from many brands in the past, but this one really knocked my socks off.

Laidbare DIY! Two In One Cleanser & Toner thoroughly removes makeup and grime, while also providing antibacterial benefits.

Laidbare DIY! Two in One Cleanser & Toner Review

Facial cleansers and I – we have quite a peculiar relationship, especially when it comes to cleansers, which are based on foaming agents – derived from natural sources, such as coconut, or not – my skin is just not fond of them; I much prefer cleansing balms based on butters and oils, and, of course, cleansing oils.

Toners are a must in my skincare routine – whether it’s (just) a hydrolate, various hydrolates, toners with other added ingredients – it’s a must. I use toners for additional cleansing as well as for refreshing the skin and makeup. So, I was a bit skeptical with a claim that this product is a cleanser and a toner all in one – because a toner is, in my opinion, a watery substance. So this Laidbare Cleanser is for me just that – a cleanser.

Now, seeing the ingredients, I was a bit apprehensive about this cleanser, as it contains quite a few foaming agents, with the one – cocamidopropyl betaine – being the ingredient my skin just does not respond well to. But I thought I’m going to give it a try nonetheless and see how it works.

First, the Laidbare Cleanser comes in a simple plastic tube. The cleanser is of a transparent, gel-like texture; the scent is quite refreshing and citrusy due to citrus essential oils. The cleanser spreads easily and not much of it is needed in order to cleanse the skin.

Given it contains the above mentioned foaming agent, I try to be quick when using it – I spread the cleanser on my skin, massage it for about 20 seconds and then thoroughly wash if off with warm water – the cleanser comes off easily. And even though I am quite fast with applying and massaging, the cleanser still removes all the makeup and grime. To my surprise, the Laidbare Cleanser leaves the skin smooth and soft, but at the same time, due to cocamidopropyl betaine and alcohol, I have noticed some dryness on my skin as well as a few bumps at the beginning (I massaged the cleanser for longer than approximately 20 seconds) – as mentioned – due to the foaming agent. Now, this cleanser also contains a few foaming agents, which are gentler and to which my skin does not react negatively – namely –  decyl glucoside and coco-glucoside, so I would have much preferred had this cleanser contained only these foaming agents.

The Laidbare Cleanser also contains skin-beneficial ingredients, especially if your skin is more on the oily side – there are astringent and antibacterial ingredients, such as Liquorice and Aloe Vera and the potent antioxidants such as green tea and pomegranate extracts. So aside from a few patches of dryness here and there, this cleanser does leave the skin soft, smooth and toned.

One thing I would like to point out here – the cleanser is said to remove eye makeup as well. I suspected, given the ingredients, this might happen, just did not think it would be to such an extent – do not use this cleanser as an eye makeup remover! It wasn’t just this cleanser left my eyes feeling like they’re going to burn, there was actually this terrible pain I left in my eyes, like my eye lashes were glued and pulled – and all of that without even easily removing mascara. As a facial cleanser – yes, it thoroughly cleanses the skin, removes makeup and leaves the skin soft and smooth, but as an eye makeup remover – just – don’t!

So how about ingredients? There’s some foaming agents, some better some worse and there’s a good mix of antioxidants and anti-bacterial agents as well.

Ingredients: Aqua(water), cocamidopropyl betaine (coconut), sodium coco-sulfate (coconut), aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf juice, decyl glucoside (coconut), coco-glucoside (coconut), sodium lauryl glucose carboxylate, lauryl glucoside (coconut), dehydroacetic acid, benzyl alcohol (naturally derived preservative), sucrose laurate, alcohol (coconut), glycerin (coconut), sodium chloride (sea salt) citrus medica limonum (lemon)peel oil, citrus aurantifolia (lime) oil, glycyrrhiza glabra root extract, pumica granatum (pomegranate) seed extract, camellia sinensis (green tea) leaf extract, bertholletia excelsa (brazil nut) seed extract, purus malus(apple) fruit extract, tocopherol (vitamin E), citric extract (citrus fruits), potassium sorbate (naturally derived preservative), sodium benzoate (naturally derived preservative), citral (essential oils), linomene (essential oils)

Aloe vera hydrates and rejuvenates skin. Licorice is an emollient and has anti-inflammatory properties. Lemon peel oil has astringent, anti-irritant, anti-bacterial and anti-toxin properties and it promotes cell regeneration. Lime oil has an antiseptic and astringent properties. Pomegranate seed extract, a potent antioxidant, is high inessential acids and Omega5. Green tea leaf extract is a potent antioxidant with astringent and antimicrobial properties.

Cocamidopropyl betaine, sodium coco-sulfate, decyl glucoside, coco-glucoside, sodium lauryl glucose carboxylate and lauryl glucoside are surfactants, foaming agents and even if derived from coconut, they are still not natural ingredients. Sucrose laurate is an emulsifier.

Potassium sorbate and Sodium benzoate are preservatives and, again, naturally derived or not, are not natural ingredients, but since this cleanser is water based, such preservatives are a must.

Potentially problematic ingredients?

  • Benzyl alcohol (EWG score 5) can be naturally occurring in essential oils or synthetic. Benzyl alcohol is is used as a solvent and preservative. EU regulation allows a maximum of 1% in cosmetic products. Benzyl alcohol can be a skin allergen and can cause skin and eye irritation.

My final word?

Laidbare DIY! Two in One Cleanser & Toner Review

Laidbare DIY! Two in One Cleanser & Toner is a lot more cleanser and not much of a toner – but as a cleanser, it works well and does what a cleanser is suppose to do – remove makeup and grime, leaving the skin refreshingly cleansed, soft, smooth and toned. Those, who have no issues with various foaming agents – you’re going to like this cleanser a lot. For me, the cocamidopropyl betaine is the ingredient which, in most cases, makes me stay away from a product containing it; with the Laidbare cleanser, I managed to keep the effects of this foaming agent as much at bay as possible, but, along with alcohol, it did leave my skin dry here and there. The final result was quite good, since the cleanser also contains quite a few much needed ingredients – antioxidants and, for those with oily skin – astringents and anti-bacterial ingredients.

The price? Now that’s a kicker – just as with Laidbare For Richer and Porer Mask, which I really like and am on a second tube already (read my review here), so is the price of this cleanser – super affordable – around 8€ for a 125ml tube, which should last you around at least 5 months with a daily use as only a small amount is needed. I’ve got this cleanser back in May – it came in my Love Lula Beauty Box – and I still have around 1/4 of it left – while I haven’t been using it every single day, I’ve been using it quite often nonetheless – so this is another thorough review after 6 months use of this product.

Would I buy it again? I don’t know; there’s nothing inherently wrong with this cleanser (aside from that foaming agent – but that is only based on my skin’s preference and does not minimize the quality of the product itself), it does the job as promised and is very affordable – I just prefer oil and butter based cleansers or cleanser, if containing foaming agents for them to be of a more mild variety. However, given it’s affordable, I say – why not give it a try and see for yourself?
