Hello greenies! Surely this can’t be all from Summer for this year, can it? It’s been rainy and meh these past few days; hopefully, the weekend is more promising, as I could really use a disconnect time in the forest.

I’ve had a bit of a rant prepared in regards to turncoats within green beauty blogging community; the ones, who are endlessly posting 376 expensive products in their daily beauty routines, and are now getting a sniff of the backlash, so they’re now starting the whole groups of how to be more… ahem… green. Also, as I’ve been saying for a long time now – the copycats, the thieves, are now not only trying to re-create the photos I post; they are now in a full stealing mode of using my exact photos and texts! But this rant will have to wait for the next week, as so many things came up just now, that an already too busy and too preoccupied week and day turned into a bigger mayhem. I barely finished this week’s discounts posts – just to point out a few things – there’s still time to grab this month’s FREE Love Lula Beauty Box and FeelUnique is having a huge, up to 50% off Summer Sale. All the details bellow!

Madara Eye Contour Cream is a gentle and hydrating eye cream of a very light texture, great for the sensitive under-eye skin, offering a calm and soothing feeling.

Madara Eye Contour Cream Review

There are two schools of thought when it comes to under eye creams and under eye products in general – it’s either that this is just another marketing ploy of the beauty companies to sell more products we may not need, or the other thought, and that is the skin under eyes is different, mainly due to being far thinner and more sensitive, thus needing an extra care which the usual facial products may not provide.

I tend to agree with both points of views – but I need to offer you my explanation for each. If you’re thinking about the conventional products, which contain many ingredients not suitable for skin, at all, especially not for the very sensitive and thin skin under our eyes, then, if you’re still using conventional beauty brands, I strongly suggest you, at least, skip the under eye creams, as they, truly, are just a marketing ploy; these under eye creams usually contain more or less the same ingredients as the facial creams.

But since you’re reading this, it means you’re well aware of the benefits of the green beauty products, and in this regard, I’ll explain why under eye creams are welcomed by me.

* * *

The skin under our eyes is very sensitive and very thin, thus susceptible to faster aging; it needs protection (especially high quality sunglasses) and quality hydration and nourishment. In order for makeup, from BB creams, to foundations and concealers, to be easily applied and the makeup not creasing, along with us not pulling and tugging this sensitive and thin skin, under eye cream is a welcomed addition to our skin routines.

For the night pampering, I prefer a bit heavier products under my eyes – usually the same products I use for my skin as well – a light serum, followed by either a moisturizing cream or facial oils. During the day, a light and moisturizing under-eye cream is what I usually use; either alone or under a primer and makeup.

Given how my life has been lately, and the all around tiredness and severe lack of sleep, it shows; even though I am getting better and now spend a lot more time taking care of my skin, the skin under my eyes is still in a need of some extra care. Enter the Madara Eye Contour Cream.

* * *

The Madara Eye Contour Cream comes in an airless dispenser pump, thus providing this cream with an extended shelf life and protection of the cream.

The texture is a very thin, at times almost “liquidy” and not at all greasy; even when you’ll pump for the first that tiny amount of the eye cream on the back of your hand or on your fingers, you’ll feel a gentle, light and moisturizing effect of this cream. All it takes is a really small amount of the cream to be applied under each eye; the application is smooth, the cream basically glides on your skin – I suggest you apply this cream by way of gently dabbing the cream under your eyes.

Madara Eye Contour Cream Review

The absorption is fairly quick; the final look of the Madara Eye Contour Cream is slightly dewy, radiant. The cream does not crease, and makeup application, whether BB cream, liquid foundation or mineral foundation is easy.

After using the Madara Eye Contour Cream for over 2 months now, I can report my skin under the eyes is in far better shape than it was before I started using this cream – hydration shows. The effect this cream has on puffy eyes is almost immediate upon first application, given this cream calms and soothes the skin. Given it contains cucumber extract, another salient result of this cream is the feeling of freshness. As far as the dark circles – I don’t have them as pronounced,though they are there, however, reporting as far as the cream having any visible results wih the dark circles – I cannot report any, at least not as of yet.

The scent of the Madara Eye Contour Cream is also very nice; that typical gentle scent of most Madara facial products, though the source of this scent does not appear to be natural. The cream contains many benefitial ingredients for optimal hydration and feeling of calm and freshness for the sensitive and thin skin under the yes, such as cucumber extract, rosa damascena hydrolate, aloe vera. For nourishment, there’s avocado oil, cacao seed butter and Sodium Hyaluronate.

One point of content may be that Madara Eye Contour Cream consists of alcohol as well; alcohol can be irritating and very drying to the skin, so I was a bit surprised to see it in a product used for the under-eye skin. But, after two months of use, I did not experience any irritation.

* * *

So, how about the ingredients?

Ingredients: Aqua, Rosa Damascena (Rosa) Flower Water, Alcohol, Glycerin, Decyl Cocoate, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Glyceryl Stearate, Behenyl Alcohol, Aesculus Hippocastanum (Horse-chestnut) Seed Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Carum Petroselinum (Parsley) Extract, Lecithin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Xanthan Gum, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Leaf Extract, CI 77019 (Mica), CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), Glycine Soja (Soybean) Sterols, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe) Leaf Juice, Sodium Hyaluronate, Betaine, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Sodium Phytate, Aroma

Avocado oil is an antioxidant. providing nourishment. Cocoa Butter an emollient is high in Vitamin E. It promotes collagen production and is great for dry skin. Aloe Vera Leaf Juice moisturizes, tightens and rejuvenates the skin. Horse – Chestnut Seed Extract has skin-soothing properties and anti-ageing properties. Parsley Extract has antioxidant, anti-septic and anti-inflammatory properties. It’s soothing and promotes circulation. Peppermint Leaf Extract has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal properties. It is cooling and refreshing. May be skin irritant. Cucumber Fruit Extract has astringent properties. It’s very hydrating, cooling and soothing and works well against skin’s puffiness.

And rosa damascena hydrolate.

Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C) and Tocopherol (Vitamin E) are antioxidants. Sodium hyaluronate lessens oxidization. Betaine is a a potent humectant and anti-irritant

Aroma: just as with the Madara Night Cream and Madara Micellar Water, I am not certain what’s behind this ingredient, as it does not denote its source being natural, like from essential oils.

Decyl Cocoate, Cetearyl Alcohol and Behenyl Alcohol are emulsifiers. Most of these emulsifiers are synthetic and patented ingredients. Sodium Phytate, a synthetic ingredient, used as a chelating agent.

* * *

Potentially problematic ingredients?

While there are some ingredients, which are synthetic, the main problematic ingredient, though not in regards to toxicity, is alcohol, as it can be very drying. Given it is listed fairly early on the ingredients list, it means the amount of alcohol is quite substantial.

* * *

My final word?

Madara Eye Contour Cream Review

The Madara Eye Contour Cream is a gentle, hydrating, calming under-eye cream, which gives a rested feeling and appearance to the skin. It nicely controls the puffiness, while not irritating the skin or the eyes. Given it also contains a slight light-reflecting ingredients, the final look is that of a bright and rested one.

The cream comes in a 15ml bottle, safely protected from sunlight and air. It is a bit difficult to see how much I’ve used it so far, but going solely on the feeling, I’d say there’s enough cream left for at least 6 more months.

The price? Eye creams tend to be a bit more pricey, even if they come in smaller quantities – the Madara Eye Contour Cream goes for around €28 – for an under-eye cream of a great quality, which will last you for at least 8 months – I’d say it’s a good deal.

The Madara Eye Contour Cream comes as recommended by me.

* * *

Tell me, do you use under-eye creams or do you just use your usual facial creams, serums instead?

Hello greenies! Phew, what a hot week this has been, right? Every time I catch myself complaining about the heat, I quickly remind myself of, say, February and how I was longing for hot sunny weather, and I stop complaining. Though, it seems, I can’t stop complaining about being tired, overwhelmed and how quickly the time is disappearing.

The face of green beauty is changing, drastically, isn’t it? Given your emails and your complains – I see I am far from being the only one. Where quality used to matter – now it’s only about… jumping on this green bandwagon. The amount of beauty routines is… becoming distasteful, if you ask me. The bloggers, who used to offer quality, are falling behind the fast beauty/synthetic green beauty bloggers, offering nothing more than marketing ploys of expensive products shuffled day in and day out. Some green beauty bloggers could not find a creative and innovative bone inside of them if it hit them up their head – even though less and less – when I click on some of these bloggers, I see my blog being copied to a t – from photo styling, to the placement of ads, to – of course – store directories, hash tags… But then again, when we have brands, who copy other brands ingredient by ingredient, packaging by packaging – it’s no wonder. Some of these green beauty bloggers are becoming toxic, just as the toxic ingredients are now not a problem any longer. Brands, who only mind one green thing, and that is the color of money, are encouraging and happily going along – even better when all these bloggers don’t even disclose sponsored posts and sponsored ads on Instagram; the readers are none-the-wiser and hang onto every and ever-so-changing word of these self-appointed green beauty gurus.; today, they’re praising this brand’s products and the next day, they’ll tell you how difficult it is for them to be impressed by – anything, basically.

And I am still in awe of those synthetic green beauty bloggers, whose capabilities to thoroughly test, review and of course – recommend 5 cleansers, 5 serums, 5 creams in a matter of 14 days, while shuffling their “beauty routines” with these products. Morning routine, evening routine… Coming up: my 2PM routine, my before fitness routine, my lunch routine… *sigh* Surely you, the readers and potential customers, feel very valued by this, don’t you?

Anyway, it’s Friday, right? As I’m planning on maybe having this evening free to myself, I’ll leave you with this week’s green beauty discounts and free gifts with purchase – Love Lula has a FREE Beauty Box again, along with several Beauty Boxes heavily discounted for you to pick – should you see something in these boxes that’s been on your wishlist for a while or something you ran out. Remember – you do not need 5 cleansers, 5 highlighters to feel you’re worth something!

Pacifica Aquarian Gaze Water Resistant Mascara offers a natural look with one layer, while a more pronounced look with a volume and length with more than one layer.

Pacifica Aquarian Gaze Mascara Review

One of the most requested-for-review brands and products – Pacifica mascara – had a plan to write this review quite some time ago so here it is now.

Natural mascaras tend to lag behind the performance of the conventional ones, even though finding a good or even a great natural mascara is not so hard nowadays anymore. However, one thing has to be pointed out – when a mascara is waterproof, the ingredients, which make the mascara waterproof, are more or less not as natural.

I’ve been using the Pacifica Aquarian Gaze Water Resistant Mascara off and on for years. With this mascara, it can be a hit or a miss – I am not really certain whether they’ve changed formulation, or it’s really about whether you get a fresh mascara or not. The Pacifica Aquarian Gaze Water Resistant Mascara that I got about two years ago, was performing quite nicely; the one I got this year, was – empty. I don’t even know if I could call it dried up, as the tube was empty. Then I got another one, and this one is performing quite well again, though I couldn’t say it’s as waterproof as the ones I had years ago.

* * *

The Pacifica Aquarian Gaze Water Resistant Mascara brush, while plastic, nicely separates the lashes. The mascara tends to flake a bit when applying, though this can be remedied if you tilt your head back, and almost close your eyes, so that there’s more distance between the lashes and eyelids.

One layer of the Pacifica Aquarian Gaze Water Resistant Mascara will give you a natural look – the lashes will be colored and nicely separated. If you wish to achieve more volume and more pronounced lashes, two coats will be needed – and applying a second coat of the mascara is also easy, as the mascara does not clump.

As mentioned earlier, to my recollection, the Pacifica Aquarian Gaze Water Resistant Mascara that I used years ago, was a bit more waterproof as opposed to now. The mascara stays on for a good part of the day, though it gradually loses its power, and a bit of smudginess appears later on.

Now, this mascara is not all-natural, as it contains quite a few synthetic ingredients, though they do not irritate my eyes, which is a major plus. The mascara also contains beneficial ingredients, such as coconut oil, kelp and Vitamin B.

* * *

So, how about the ingredients?

Ingredients: Aqua, copernicia cerifera (carnauba) cera wax, euphorbia cerifera (candelilla) cera wax, acrylates crosspolymer, butylene glycol, stearic acid*, glyceryl stearate, polyisobutene, phenoxyethanol, hydroxyethylcellulose, sodium hydroxide, caprylyl glycol, ethylhexylglycerin, steareth-21, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, panthenol (vitamin B), macrocystis pyrifera (kelp) extract, sodium dehydroacetate, disodium EDTA, hexylene glycol, iron oxides Cl 77491, Cl 77492, Cl 77499.

Candelilla wax, Euphorbia Cerifera Wax, Ozokerite Wax and Copernicia Cerifera Wax are emulsifiers and thickening agents. Glycerin is a humectant and lubricant.

Coconut oil has nourishing and moisturising properties. Panthenol is a form of vitamin B5, used as a moisturizer and lubricating compound. Kelp extract has anti-irritating properties; it contains an abundance of minerals.

Acrylates/Octylacrymide Copolymer is a film-forming agent; this is an ingredient, which makes many products (especially mascara)  water-resistant/waterproof. The ingredient is, of course, a synthetic one, and while it is not classified as toxic, it may be an eye-irritant.
Stearic Acid, a naturally-occurring fatty acid, used to condition and protect lashes. Hydroxyethylcellulose is a thickening agent. Caprylyl glycol is known a a biological stabiliser and now has been tested as a paraben-free preservative.

Potentially problematic ingredients? There’s quite a number of synthetic ingredients in this mascara, and a few are not all that pleasant.

  • Butylene Glycol is used as a preservative, solvent (dissolves other ingredients), and humectant (holds moisture to skin). Human irritant – strong evidence (only for products for use around the eyes, on the skin, or may be aerosolized (airborne)
  • Glyceryl Stearate Citrate is a lubricant; it gives the skin a soft and smooth appearance, but there’s a strong possibility it’s comedogenic.
  • Polyisobutene: Polymer of the hydrocarbon isobutylene obtained from petroleum oil. It functions as a thickening and film-forming agent. A waterproofing emollient.
  • Ethylhexylglycerin, a natural preservative used as an alternative to parabens. It can possibly damage and irritate eyes, and is known to cause dermatitis.
  • Sodium hydroxide (EWG score 3) can be a potential irritant for skin and eyes; those who know that this ingredient irritates their skin should not use this mascara.
  • Phenoxyethanol, a preservative, a skin and eye irritant.
  • Disodium EDTA, a chemical salt used to separate heavy metals from dyes and other substances. A synthetic preservative, made from ethylenediamine, formaldehyde (a known carcinogen) and sodium cyanide (made from the toxic gas hydrogen cyanide).
  • Hexylene glycol, a preservative and solvent. May be irritating to some skin types.

* * *

My final word?

Pacifica Aquarian Gaze Mascara Review

Pacifica Aquarian Gaze Water Resistant Mascara offers a nice color to the lashes, and with one layer – a natural look. It nicely separates the lashes, and stays on for the better part of the day, though it may smudge a bit. With two layers, you get a pretty volume and length and layering is also quite easy – no clumping.

While you may get a faulty mascara, which may be dry or – as it was in my case a while ago – even an empty tube, when you do get a full tube, it should last you for the duration when the mascara is still good to be used – around 3 – 4 months.

I guess the bigger problem is this mascara is not totally natural, as it contains, especially, for my taste, a bit too many synthetic preservatives. While preservatives, especially in mascaras, are very much needed and important – due to healthy reasons, these synthetic preservatives can also pose certain health risks.

Price? Somewhere between 13 – 16€, depending where you buy it, which makes this mascara quite affordable, thought not entirely.

Would I buy it again? You know what? I would and I will; I’ve been using this mascara, on and off, for many years now, and given it does not irritate my eyes, while performing nicely – lasting quite a many hours on my lashes, giving them either a natural look during the day, or a more pronounced look with layers – it’s a mascara I will continue buying.

How about you? Have you tried the Pacifica Aquarian Gaze Water Resistant Mascara? What’s your take on it?

Hello greenies! How have you been? Hadn’t had a chance to chat with you last Friday – entirely too much going on and not enough energy. The thing is, bloggers are only human, and we have to tackle many different issues outside of managing our blogs. Most of the brands and stores perfectly understand this; some do not. I’ve had this experience with some brands, after coming back from the much needed hiatus due to personal issues – I know, it’s mind boggling how certain businesses view bloggers – like some type of robots, who must provide a quick turn around on reviews and what not. Yet, the majority of the brands and stores I work with know exactly how much work and time we put into our blogs, so that you, lovely readers, can be up to date with the happenings in the green beauty community as well as being informed on all other pertinent things regarding the green beauty.

Yet, we, the bloggers, still feel pressure to deliver – daily, weekly… whatever the case may be. Such pressure is, of course, not productive – neither for those, who have to tackle the life outside the blogs, nor, essentially, for businesses we work with and you, our lovely readers – because both deserve only our best effort. If I know I won’t be able to give the businesses I work with and you, my readers, the very best version of myself – I’d rather not even post, until I know I can offer you all what you’ve grown accustomed to.

Also, I’d like to point out the contrast between organic and synthetic green beauty bloggers, pun very much intended. With green beauty expanding, almost exploding in the past year or so, there’s many new green beauty bloggers popping up, offering nothing more than cheap copies of all the work meticulous green beauty bloggers, with years, some even over a decade worth of personal experience with green beauty, paved before them, and, aside from having bought likes and followers (and they are counted in 1000s – yes, indeed!), they offer little more than shuffled products of their daily beauty routines. Some businesses seem to be content with this, just as some readers, unfortunately, who, essentially, receive no valuable information or knowledge – just quick marketing ploys.

My blog and my approach will remain the same as it has been since before I registered my domain back in 2010 – honest, detailed information on everything I deem my readers, the customers of the green beauty products are worth. As it is right now, some green beauty businesses may be happy with the fast turn around of the reviews of their products, endless beauty routines posted by some, however, as I’ve been saying all along – quality prevails in the end – but quality takes longer than quantity.

In case you’ve missed – I reviewed a fabulous perfume from the new brand called Walden Natural Perfumes.

Bellow you can check this week’s green beauty discounts and free gifts with purchase, in case you need some green beauty goodies (or – if you feel like treating yourself with a little something).
